株式市場の時価総額を名目国内総生産（GDP)で割った値のこと。GDPよりも株式市場の時価総額の方が大きければ値が1を上回り、値が大きいほど株価の割高感が強まる。
その国の株価は長期的にみるとその国の経済力に見合った水準に近づくという考えから、世界的に著名な米国の投資家の一人であるウォーレン・バフェット氏が重視している指標とされる。
