資金調達の方法には内部金融と外部金融がある。外部金融とは、自社以外の外部から資金を調達することをさす。
外部金融は、大きく直接金融と間接金融の2つに分けられる。
（1）直接金融
金融市場から直接資金を調達することをさす。株式や債券などを発行して投資家から資金を調達する方法がこれにあたる
（2）間接金融
銀行等の金融機関を経由して、金融市場から間接的に資金を調達することをさす。一般にいう融資や借入がこれにあたる
