5月3日、64年前に「アンネ・フランク・ハウス」が一般公開された日

Today it's 64 years ago the Anne Frank House opened its doors to the public, on 3 May 1960.
These are the memories of the American photographer Arnold Newman of this photo he took of Otto Frank in the attic of the Secret Annex a few hours before the official opening of the Anne Frank House museum:
“The mood was depressing, and I immediately began photographing him. After a few moments, the Westertoren bells next door began to ring, and Frank turned to me and said: ‘Those were the bells that Anne wrote about."
He suddenly broke down completely, weeping uncontrollably, and then so did I.
We never met again.
To this day when I lecture or tell this story to people, I find I choke up; I still can’t help myself.
1960年5月3日、アンネ・フランクの家が一般公開されてから64年 が経ちました。
これは、アメリカ人写真家アーノルド・ニューマンが、アンネ・フ ラン ク の 家 の 公 開 の 数 時 間 前 、秘 密 別 屋 の 屋根裏部屋でオットー・フランクを撮った写真についての思い出です：
「憂鬱な雰囲気だったので、私はすぐに彼を撮り始めた。しばらくすると、隣のウェスタートーレンの鐘が鳴り始め、フランクは私 に向かって言った。「この鐘のことをアンネは書いていた。」
フランクは突然泣き崩れました。
私たちは二度と会うことはありませんでした。
今日に至るまで、この話を講演したり人に話したりすると、私は胸が詰まってしまう。

親にとって、子どもを失うことほど辛いことはないだろう。
この時にオットーの気持ちは、察するに余りある。
昭和35年のこと。
アンネが亡くなって16年あまりも経っていたのかと思う。
