General Incorporated Association Co and Archeda, Inc. Begin Monitoring Natural Carbon Credits Using Satellites

Tokyo, Japan –May 8, 2024 – General Incorporated Association Co, a non-profit organization that supports the creation of carbon credits in the agricultural sector, is pleased to announce a partnership with Archeda, Inc. to utilize satellite data for monitoring carbon credits. This collaboration will enable the creation of high-quality, reliable carbon credits that meet the highest standards of transparency and quantification.

The Need for High-Quality Carbon Credits

In recent years, concerns have been raised about the creation of low-quality carbon credits, which may not accurately reflect actual emissions reductions. These "greenwashing" practices can undermine the integrity of the carbon credit market, leading to a loss of trust among buyers and sellers. To address these concerns, the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market(ICVCM) has developed the Core Carbon Principles, a set of guidelines for creating high-quality carbon credits.

General Incorporated Association Co's Commitment to Quality

We create carbon credits in the agricultural sector using Japan's J-Credit Scheme methodology, "AG-005: Methodology for Methane Emission Reduction By Adjusted Water Management."
Recognizing the importance of reliable monitoring methods, the organization has partnered with Archeda.inc to leverage satellite data for enhanced monitoring accuracy. This initiative aligns with the Core Carbon Principles' emphasis on transparency and robust quantification of emission reductions.

Collaboration for Sustainable Development

The partnership between General Incorporated Association Co and Archeda, Inc. is a testament to the organizations' shared commitment to sustainable development. By combining their expertise in carbon credit creation and satellite data analysis, the two organizations aim to promote the growth of a robust and reliable carbon credit market that contributes to a low-carbon society.

Looking Ahead: Sharing Knowledge and Advancing Solutions

To further advance the development of natural carbon credits, General Incorporated Association Co plans to publish a monitoring report this winter, highlighting the effectiveness of satellite data monitoring.
The organization is also committed to sharing its knowledge and collaborating with other stakeholders to promote the adoption of high-quality carbon credits.
In June 2024, we plan to work with experts to conduct a study on how changes in water management in rice fields will affect biodiversity.
