String Attached

- Project somewhere in Europe

Thinking of the position and the role of the architect within the project. The project was an open competition. And SO-IL was selected as an American Architect bringing their culture to the outside of the suburbian place. There was a context behind how Florian was treated by the local people so as to provide the new idea to level the site in regard to the new contextual value of the indigenous culture. What fascinates about was that his role as an architect. Somehow he had to produce a different aspect of crowd-making. The architecture needed to be an idiosyncratic object rather than being homogeneous while the ground condition and seamless ground-and-roof continuity make sense to connect all the surrounding geometrically. But still, the touch and appearance are out of the locality that is intentional by him. The competition site was an open space surrounded by the factory, storage, academic institution.

The project tackled linking all those facilities into one single organization. The ground floor has a separated relationship while the fluent gentle slopes that do not follow an obvious geometry, pattern, or grid, significantly appeal to the circular sequential landscape made of massive concrete.

The material coordination was really outstanding in the way that the surrounding building and factory are made of red brick representing the medieval time of history, making a micro detail of pattern playing around the color(Fire brick, RGB: 178,34,34) and shade(Darkness level).
