An incident that happened to a friend of mine:

When I had a dinner with my Team Leader and teammates, only 2 people were left, Team Leader and myself. We had nice food & drink and had a pleasant talk over the dinner until the time we were left alone.
Without any introductory conversation, Team Leader asked me abruptly:

"You do not have any respect for me, don't you?"

It was so sudden that he uttered the words without any sign or context.
I was naturally just like a layman standing in front of Clint Eastwood fully ready for a duel.
Simply because his face was so serious with gazing eyes, I could not evade the seriousness in front of my eyes.

Looking back from now, Team Leader was drunk, so he could release the long-reserved question rather easily, with the help of alcohol.

私の友人に起こった事件:

チームリーダーとチームメイト数名と食事をしたときです。他のメンバーは先に帰り、気が付くと、残ったのはチームリーダーと私の2人だけでした。私たちは美味しい食べ物と飲み物を飲みながら、二人だけになるまで楽しい話をしていました。

楽しく会話を交わしていると、チームリーダーは突然私に尋ねました。

「あなたは私を尊敬していませんね?」

それはとても突然で、彼はそれまでに何の兆候も文脈もなく言葉を発しました。

私は当然、既に拳銃を構えたクリント・イーストウッドの前に立っている素人のようでした。

彼の余りにも真剣な眼差しに凍り付いた私は、その真剣を回避することは至難でした。

今から振り返ってみると、チームリーダーは酔っていたので、アルコールの助けを借りて、長い間予約されていた質問をかなり簡単に解放することができたのでしょう。

質問: 彼はどのように反応したと思われますか?
