Production of DOCUMENTARY FILM ABOUT JOINT CUSTODY in EUROPE

We hope this letter finds you well.
My name is SHIN Takeo ( also nicknamed “Taque” ). As vice president representing the International Division of KIMITO (meaning "with you" in Japanese), we are pleased to send this letter asking for your assistance in our ongoing projects, which I would like to roll out below.
1. KIMITO and Joint Custody in Japan
We are newly formed and authorized Tokyo-based NPO with the purpose of protecting children's rights and providing full effort to the introduction of Joint Custody in Japan.
Japan unfortunately remains as a unique exception among the G20 countries, in that until today one of the two parents is obliged to lose the custody of his/her own children after divorce. This means that, according to recent estimation, some 60% of children of divorced couples totally lose contact with one of their parents. Those considered “lucky” at avoiding total separation with their children also suffer from intolerable orders given by the family court, which permits visitation to their children merely 2-3 hours per month on average.
On top of this, almost every day a great number of children ( there are no official statistics) are abducted by their parents, with the assistance of notorious “divorce lawyers”. The attached article released by EFE, the world’s 4th largest news agency, may help in gaining understanding of this insane situation in Japan.
This outrageous situation should immediately be changed. Thanks to the efforts made by people who believe in human rights and justice, the Japanese government has finally commenced studies toward the introduction of a Joint Custody Law. We expect that the bill for the new law will pass within the coming year, and we need to put an end to this “black hole of child abduction” (an expression made by an American father victim) as soon as possible.
KIMITO has been established to be an active part of the nationwide movement in favor of introducing Joint Custody in Japan with European standard quality. Below are examples of our ongoing and planned activities among others.
● Commitment to various activities in this movement such as campaign, visitation to politicians, contributing articles to the press,etc.
● Radio Program : “Boys and girls, here are messages from your dad and mum whom you cannot meet !”
● Symposium over generation gap : How we should bridge between parents and children.
● Art and color therapy for preventing child abuse.
● Forum for the Youth : discussion over “family, marriage, parenting and shared custody”
● Production of documentary films
2. Production of documentary films by KIMITO
Ø “Japanese LBPs (Left Behind Parents = those who cannot see their children) appeal the necessity of Joint Custody and learn how parenting after divorce is practiced in Europe” ( Oct. – Nov.,2022 )
KIMITO is about to launch a documentary production project to be carried out in France and Spain. In collaboration with LBPs residing in several European cities including Paris and Barcelona, we will organize street campaigns, interviews with journalists, lawyers, NPO, etc. Below are our plans which we currently bear in mind.
A. Documentary of campaign for Joint Custody in Japan
● Participation in 10KmParisCentre race ( https://10kmpariscentre.com/ ) on Oct.16th,2022
● Street campaigns in major cities including Paris, Barcelona,and Valencia.
For you to share with us the image of our campaign, I would like to show our banners which we are planning to use.
B. Documentary of Joint Custody practiced by divorced families in Europe
● Filming and interviewing of divorced couples and their parenting practice in France and Spain.
● Interviews with lawyers about actual divorce process and the elaboration of parenting plan
● Interviews with NGO about children’s rights, mental care and how to solve “parental alienation”.
With these two main themes, our professional audio-visual team is planning to produce these documentary films.
3. KIMITO NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT TO OUR PROJECTS
In order to put an end to the outrageous situation in Japan described above, moreover, to save our children who cannot see their parents, and to create a society in which parents and children can live in sound family and social environments, KIMITO is determined to make all possible efforts in collaboration with all the LBPs, NGOs, journalists, politicians and the people who believe in human rights and justice all over the world.
We would like to ask you to join this movement and give us support, in whatever manner, such as through media coverage, contact with interested professionals, joint actions etc. Moreover, we are more than happy if you could spread this letter ( in four languages : English, French, Spanish and Japanese ) to your collaborators and friends who may share our goals with us.
