【Netflixで英語を学ぶ】Love Hard（随時更新中）ーその①
2021年11月5日にNetflixで公開されたばかりのLove Hardを見ました。日常生活にかなり使える表現が満載でしたので、もう一度見て英語を学んでいきたいと思います！
①He ghosts me. （彼から突然連絡がなくなった）
ghostは、これまで連絡が来ていたので突然連絡がこなくなった状態もときに使われるスラング的用法。I was ghosted.のように受動態でも表現可能。
②on a positive note...（プラス面としては、明るい話題としては）
YouEnglishで"on a positive note"で検索してみると、”to end on a positive note"で使われているものが多かった。「明るい雰囲気で終わるために」という意味。
例：Let's end on a positive note.
We want to leave this on a positive note, so we're going to stop here.
③What's the one common denominator in all of these dates? （これらすべてのデートの共通点はなにか？）
denominator :分母、共通の特徴
common denominatorで共通点という意味合いで使われる。YouEnglishでも検索してみたが、"common denominator" で使われている動画がかなり多かったので覚える！
例：What's the common denominator in all your priblems? It's you.
The common denominator between all these articles is that they're all related to personal growth.
④I'm so over eating out. （もう外食には飽きた）
I'm over〜は「〜には飽きた、〜はウンザリだ」という意味で使われる。
例：I'm so over winter.（冬はもういいよ） / I'm over him.（彼のことはもう忘れた）
⑤You were chubby as a kid? （あなたも子どもの頃太ってたの？）
What was your favorite book as a kid?（子どものころ好きだった本は何？）
「子どもの頃」の表現として、when I was a kidやwhen you were a kidと言ってしまいそうだが（もちろん文法的には正しい）、ネティティブは "as a kid" をよく使う気がする。ここでも短い間に2回でas a kid が出てきた。
⑦I'm not buying it. （信じないぞ）
not buying something：信じない、受け入れない
buy into somethingで〜を信じるという意味でも用いられる口語的表現。アイディアや意見をそのまま信じて受け入れるイメージ。
⑧I take it back. I tak everything back. （言ったことを撤回する）
これは言いたくても言えない英語！日常的にもかなり使えそうな表現。
⑨You are about to fly 3000miles to meet up with a guy who is literally the polar opposite of anybody you've ever dated before...（これまでデートしてきた男とは正反対の男に会いにいくために3000マイル旅しようとしている）
まず、be about to do〜「〜しようとしている」という表現は、かなり映画ドラマで聞く表現。自分でも使いこなせるようにしたい。
そして、the polar oppositeに注目。「正反対の」という意味。
⑩This is just off the charts. （すごい！）
off the charts：（重量や大きさなどが）とてつもない、抜群の
The Free Dictionary によると、、、
1. Quite a lot more or better than is usual or was expected.
例：Our electricity bill was off the charts last month! How could we be using that much energy?
2. Especially or unbelievably great, wonderful, exciting, etc.
例：I'm telling you, that concert is going to be off the charts!
今回の使い方は、2番の方。
⑪We don't have to talk shop at breakfast.（朝食で仕事の話はしなくていいよ）
talk shop：仕事の話をする といういう表現。
以前、お気に入りのポッドキャストであるAll Ears Englishに出てきた表現、映画で発見できて嬉しかった！
⑫We have to head out. （出かけなければいけないんだ）
⑬I told him to swing by at 11:00. （11時にここに寄るように彼に伝えた）
swing by：立ち寄る
drop by や stop by も、ちょっと立ち寄るという同義語になる。
⑭I just can't put my finger on it.（原因は分からないけど）
このサイトに"put my finger on it" の分かりやすい説明がありました。

「英語の感覚的に考えると「原因を指差せと言われてもできない」というような言い方です。たとえば「なぜそう思うかは分からないけど、彼がなぜか怪しい」は「I can’t put my finger on in, but there’s something suspicious about him.」とか。他にも「I can’t put my finger on it, but for some reason I don’t like that movie.（なぜ嫌いかはうまく言えないけど、その映画がなんかダメなんだよね）」とか。」
⑮Full disclosure,...（実はね）
full disclosure を直訳すると「完全開示」などになるが、口語的には「正直に言うと、実はね」といったニュアンスで使われる。これまでto be honestや、to tell you the truthなどを使っていたので、full disclosureも使ってみたいと思います。
