AttackSurface Management
The Cabinet Cybersecurity Center (NISC), based on the National Security Strategy, will begin implementing "Attack Surface Management" to enhance response capabilities in the field of cybersecurity and strengthen the security measures of government agencies. This involves using dedicated tools to comprehensively investigate the status of servers and network devices connected to the internet, identifying vulnerabilities in devices that could serve as entry points for cyberattacks, and promptly addressing these issues.
Starting from July 22, the investigation and assessment of servers, network devices, and other internet-exposed infrastructure will be conducted around the clock, targeting all ministries and agencies (26 in total), all independent administrative agencies (87 in total), and 9 designated entities under the Basic Law.
If any vulnerabilities are found, the respective organization will be notified and will take appropriate action.
By steadily promoting these efforts, we aim to further enhance the ability to respond to and defend against cyberattacks within government institutions.
Moreover, while this initiative is referred to as "Attack Surface Management," the Digital Agency aims to rephrase such Katakana terms derived from English into Japanese, making them more widely understood.
