What composes our happy?
There are times to feel happy or want to have a happy life. Today, we introduce 3 hormones regarded with happiness.
The first one is dopamine. It is secreted when we do something fun or win some games. It is also said to be secreted when eating, chewing well, or gambling. In other words, this hormone is a pleasure hormone, which gives temporary happiness.
More dopamine isn't always better. Excessive release will cause wakefulness.
A prime example is drug abuse.
When dealing with drugs, large amounts of dopamine are released. Then, a disease called schizophrenia develops, and symptoms that occur when using drugs appear. Also, it becomes an addiction that makes you want to experience this pleasure over and over again.
The second is the happy hormone, oxytocin. Oxytocin is known as the love hormone as well as the happiness hormone.
This hormone is secreted by physical contact with humans and animals, and by receiving affection from family and friends. In particular, it is said that a lot of oxytocin is secreted during physical contact with a lover.
Effects caused by the release of oxytocin
• Improvement of depression
-Brain and mind are healed and stress is relieved
-Reduces anxiety and fear
•Increase trust in others
can have a variety of influences.
However, too much oxytocin can have negative effects.
•Easier to be deceived...By trusting others more, there is a risk of believing even false information and getting scammed.
• Jealousy increases…Oxytocin also has the effect of strengthening relationships with others, so you may feel strong jealousy toward outsiders who come from the outside.
As an example of this, I often make complaints to schools.
"Monster parent" monster parent is mentioned. This is because their love for their children is so strong that they worry about their school life (being taught unnecessary information) and take action.
The third hormone is serotonin. Have you ever heard about it on the news?
It is said that this hormone regulates dopamine to prevent excessive secretion, suppresses negative emotions such as anger and impatience, and provides a long-lasting sense of happiness.
Here are some ways to increase serotonin.
• Soak up the sun
• Get enough sleep
Eat foods that are good for your intestines, such as bananas and dairy products in the morning
• Exercise moderately
In modern society, the development of smartphones and personal computers has led to a shortage of serotonin, such as not getting sunlight in the morning and working in the same posture all the time.
A lack of serotonin can lead to mental imbalance, depression, and even death.
Here is one example that shows the need for serotonin.
Do you know a country called Greenland? It is a large island (six times the size of Japan) surrounded by ice and snow in the northeast of Canada.
Here, about 20% of the population attempts suicide.
Why is the suicide rate so high?
A lack of serotonin affects it. Greenland is located in the Arctic Circle and experiences polar nights (days when the sun does not rise all day) several times a year.
Therefore, people who don't get enough sunlight and have serotonin deficiency can become depressed or become addicted because they can't control dopamine.
As I mentioned, understanding the roles and effects of these hormones will make you feel happier. I hope that your life will be happier.
