The first lesson of 2023

I took an online English lesson with teacher I today. 
She is one of my favorite teachers. 
I've been taking her lessons since November 2018.
Unbelievably, already been more than 3 years! 
I feel we get along very well. 
I hope she thinks like that too.

We talked about the way of spending the new year's holiday in Japan today.
At the beginning of the lesson, she asked me about kadomatsu and shimenawa. 
I explained that some families decorate kadomatsu on their gate, but in our case, we live in an apartment, so we have kadomatsu on our main entrance.  Regarding shimenawa, it depends on the family, some families decorate their own entrance doors and others don't like that. 

In our case, I lost my father last year, so we didn't decorate it. 
When I was a child, we decorated shimenawa on our entrance and every door in our house, and we also decorated it on our car though, we don't have an opportunity to see such cars recently. 
In addition, we don't visit the shrine during the new year holiday because of a family member's death.
