「餃子の王将」1号店：2024年10月10日（木）

京都市の四条大宮の交差点そばに「餃子の王将」1号店がある。1階はカウンター席のみ，2階と3階はテーブル席である。京都の「餃子の王将」の発祥の地でもある。元社長で故人の大東隆行氏は，この四条大宮の1号店から「餃子の王将」をスタートさせた。

　私が京都産業大学経済学部に着任（2009年4月）してから何年かが経過した頃に，「経済人特別講義」という講義科目を担当した期間があった。この科目は，15回の授業のうち13回の授業について，学外のさまざまな分野で活躍しておられるユニークな社会人に講師を依頼して，「自由なテーマ」で話題を提供してもらうオムニバス形式の授業を展開するものであった。

　この「経済人特別講義」のうちの1回の授業について，「餃子の王将」を展開する株式会社王将フードサービス社長（当時）の大東隆行氏に講師をお願いしたことがある。穏やかで物腰の柔らかい，「謙虚さ」という言葉を一挙手一投足で表現したような人であった。お会いしての第一印象は「叩き上げの苦労人」だったと記憶している。

　大東隆行氏は2013年12月に拳銃で撃たれて亡くなられた。大変悲しい。ご存じのとおり，京都の「餃子の王将」の営業店舗は，各店舗によって微妙に料理の味や雰囲気が異なり，その店舗の店長やスタッフがしのぎを削って競争している。四条大宮の1号店は，やはり発祥の地の店舗だけに，故人の大東氏の遺志を受け継いでおり，料理の味とサービスも格別だ。私も，時々，大東氏のことを思い出しながら，四条大宮の1号店の末席で美味しい餃子で舌つづみを打っている。

The First “Gyoza no Ohsho” Restaurant: Thursday, October 10, 2024

Near the Shijo-Omiya intersection in Kyoto City stands the first “Gyoza no Ohsho” restaurant. The first floor is counter seating only, while the second and third floors offer table seating. This location is also the birthplace of Kyoto’s famous “Gyoza no Ohsho” chain. The late Takayuki Ohigashi, the former president, started “Gyoza no Ohsho” from this very first store at Shijo-Omiya.

A few years after I joined the Faculty of Economics at Kyoto Sangyo University in April 2009, I had the opportunity to teach a course called “Special Lectures by Business Leaders.” This course was designed as an omnibus lecture series where, for 13 out of the 15 sessions, we invited guest speakers from various fields to discuss topics of their choosing.

One of these guest speakers was Mr. Takayuki Ohigashi, then-president of Ohsho Food Service Corporation, which operates “Gyoza no Ohsho.” He was a calm and soft-spoken man, whose every gesture conveyed a sense of humility. I remember my first impression of him as a hardworking person who had risen through the ranks.

Tragically, Mr. Takayuki Ohigashi was shot and killed in December 2013. It was a heartbreaking loss. As many people know, the “Gyoza no Ohsho” restaurants in Kyoto vary slightly in terms of flavor and atmosphere, as each restaurant competes under the leadership of its managers and staff. The first store at Shijo-Omiya, being the founding location, carries on Mr. Ohigashi’s legacy, and the quality of both the food and service is exceptional. Occasionally, I find myself reminiscing about Mr. Ohigashi while savoring delicious gyoza at this first store, enjoying my meal at one of its modest seats.
