研究室の暖房:2023年11月16日(木)

ここ数日,京都では最低気温が7℃前後,最高気温が17℃前後である。大学の研究室も大学の集中管理のもと暖房に切り替わった。ところが,夏のクールビズ,冬のウォームビズの取り組みの影響だろうか,研究室の部屋の気温が暖房のスイッチを入れても、一向に温かくならない。

 天井に設置されたエアコンから出る暖気は部屋の天井近くに溜まり,部屋の足許まで届いてこないのだろうと思って,サーキュラーを回して部屋の空気を循環させた。それでも,温かくならない。どうも,「エコ活」の一環で,冬の部屋の室内温度を20℃にしようとしているらしい。天井に設置されたエアコンの温度はリモコン設定ではなく,サーモスタットが内蔵されていて,20℃に設定されているらしい。つまり,天井近くの暖気が20℃なので,空気を循環しても部屋全体で18℃くらいにしかならない。京都の冬は底冷えがすることで有名であるが,「エコ活」とは快適さを犠牲にすることも確かである。

Heating in the Laboratory:November 16th(Thursday)

Over the past few days, the minimum temperature in Kyoto has been around 7°C, while the maximum temperature has hovered around 17°C. In the university laboratories, heating has been switched on under the centralized management of the university. However, perhaps influenced by the efforts of Cool Biz in summer and Warm Biz in winter, the temperature in the laboratory rooms does not seem to get warm even when the heating is turned on.

The warm air coming from the air conditioner installed in the ceiling seems to accumulate near the ceiling of the room and does not reach the floor. In an attempt to address this, I circulated the air in the room by turning on the fan, but it still didn't get warm. It appears that as part of "eco-friendly activities," the goal is to maintain the indoor temperature of the room at 20°C during the winter. The temperature of the air conditioner installed in the ceiling is not controlled by the remote but has a built-in thermostat set to 20°C. In other words, even if the warm air near the ceiling is at 20°C, circulating the air only results in the overall room temperature reaching about 18°C. While Kyoto's winter is famous for its chilliness, it seems that "eco-friendly activities" come at the expense of comfort.
