晴明神社の宵宮祭と神幸祭：2024年9月23日（月）
9月1日の私のブログで晴明祭について紹介した。「秋分の日」とその前日に，晴明神社（京都市上京区晴明町）で晴明祭が開催された。「秋分の日」の前日の9月21日（土）午後7時から，晴明神社で宵宮祭（お迎え提灯行列/湯立神楽奉納）が行われた。晴明神社の堀川通り沿いと境内には露店が並んだ（下の写真，筆者撮影）。京都市バスが来るたびに，この前夜祭を目当てに「晴明神社前」の停留所で多くの人が降車していた。
昨日の「秋分の日」の9月22日（日）午後1時からは，午前中に降っていた雨が止み，暑さも和らぐなかで，晴明神社で神輿巡幸が行われた（上の写真と下の写真，筆者撮影）。予想通り，見物客で大賑わいだった。
堀川通りに面した鳥居の前では，約十名の警察官が交通誘導や注意の呼びかけをしながら，所狭しであるが，堀川通の右端を神輿の渡御が威勢よく行われた。ここから，南は下長者町通，西は智恵光院通，北は寺之内通の氏子町内を練り歩き，祭列には少年鼓笛隊や小さな子供たちの参加も加わり，菊鉾，扇鉾，獅子，御神宝，飾馬などが綺麗な装いを纏い巡幸し，午後6時頃に本社に戻ってきた。
御神輿の担ぎ手は大変だ。私も，今から39年前に，東京都中央区日本橋一丁目の御神輿を担いだことがある。担ぎ終えた後，肩にあざができ，大変だったとの覚えがある。
22日の京都市上京区の午後は，ここ数日の厳しい残暑とは大きく変わり，気温27℃，北の風3ｍ/秒と涼しく，秋風が吹くなかでの晴明祭となった。
9月20日から22日に掛けて，石川県能登地方で発生した線状降水帯による記録的豪雨で川の氾濫や土砂災害の被害に遭われた方々に，お見舞いを申し上げる。
Seimei Shrine’s Evening Festival and Shinko Festival: Monday, September 23, 2024
In my blog on September 1st, I introduced the Seimei Festival. The Seimei Festival was held at Seimei Shrine (Seimeicho, Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City) on the Autumnal Equinox Day and the day before. On Saturday, September 21st, the day before the Autumnal Equinox, the Evening Festival (Omukae Lantern Procession/Yudate Kagura Dedication) was held at Seimei Shrine from 7 PM. Stalls were lined up along Horikawa Street and within the shrine grounds (see photo below, taken by the author). Every time a Kyoto City bus arrived, many people got off at the “Seimei Shrine-mae” stop, aiming to attend this pre-festival.
Yesterday, Sunday, September 22nd, the Autumnal Equinox Day, from 1 PM, the rain that had been falling in the morning stopped, and under the more moderate heat, the Mikoshi Procession took place at Seimei Shrine (see photos above and below, taken by the author). As expected, the area was bustling with spectators.
In front of the torii gate facing Horikawa Street, about ten police officers were guiding traffic and calling for caution. Despite the tight space, the lively Mikoshi procession proceeded along the right side of Horikawa Street. From there, it wound its way through the parishioners’ neighborhoods—south to Shimochojyamachi Street, west to Chiekoin Street, and north to Teranouchi Street. The procession included a youth drum and fife band and young children, along with beautiful floats such as the Chrysanthemum Pike, Fan Pike, Lion Dance, Sacred Treasures, and Decorated Horses. The procession returned to the main shrine around 6 PM.
Carrying the mikoshi is tough. I myself carried the mikoshi in Nihonbashi 1-chome, Chuo Ward, Tokyo 39 years ago. After carrying it, I remember getting bruises on my shoulders, and it was quite difficult.
The afternoon of the 22nd in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City, saw a significant change from the severe lingering summer heat of the past few days. With a temperature of 27°C and a northern wind of 3 m/s, the Seimei Festival took place in a cool atmosphere, with autumn winds blowing.
My thoughts are with those affected by the river flooding and landslides caused by the record-breaking heavy rain from a linear rainband in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture from September 20th to 22nd.
