金木犀の香りが漂い始める：2023年10月13日（金）

日本では，金木犀（キンモクセイ）の香りが漂い始めると秋本番を迎える。昨日から，京都でも，あちらこちらで金木犀の香りが乾燥した空気に乗って漂い始めた。

　もともとギンモクセイの花が白色であり，花の色が金色（オレンジ色）であることから，キンモクセイと名前が付けられたともいう。樹皮が犀（サイ）の皮膚に似ていて，金色の花を咲かせるので金木犀と名前が付けられたとも言われている。ギンモクセイは中国では桂花と呼ばれいる。

　キンモクセイの花には薬効があり，胃炎，低血圧症，不眠症などに効果が期待されるという。桂花茶はキンモクセイの花を乾燥させたもので，紅茶や烏龍茶に混ぜて愉しむという。
