ヘンリー・キッシンジャー米国元国務長官が逝去：2023年11月30日（木）

　米国の元国務長官であり，日本では同氏の発言は，時の米国大統領の発言よりも注目されることの多かったヘンリー・キッシンジャー氏が11月29日に100歳で逝去された。ご冥福をお祈り申し上げる。

　1973年10月に起きた第一次石油危機（石油禁輸）の際に，キッシンジャー氏はニクソン政権で国務長官を務め，イスラエル対アラブ産油国，米国対アラブ産油国，先進工業諸国対アラブ産油国の間の政治交渉において重要な役割を果たした。当時の米国国防長官で，後（1977年）に米国エネルギー省初代長官のジェームズ・シュレジンジャー氏も2014年3月に逝去されている。サウジアラビア側では，長年サウジアラビアの石油鉱物資源相を務めたアハマド・ザキ・ヤマニ氏が2021年2月に逝去されている。

　第一次石油危機をよく知る重要人物がいなくなり，ダニエル・ヤーギン氏の著書『The Prize（石油の世紀）』が唯一史実を語る詳細な記録になりつつある。

Former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger Passes Away：November 30th(Thursday)

Henry Kissinger, the former U.S. Secretary of State whose statements in Japan often garnered more attention than those of the sitting U.S. president, passed away at the age of 100 on November 29th. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.

In October 1973, during the first oil crisis (oil embargo), Kissinger served as Secretary of State in the Nixon administration and played a crucial role in political negotiations between Israel and Arab oil-producing countries, the United States and Arab oil-producing countries, and industrialized countries and Arab oil-producing countries. The then U.S. Secretary of Defense, James Schlesinger, who later (in 1977) became the first Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, also passed away in March 2014. On the Saudi Arabian side, Ahmad Zaki Yamani, who served as Saudi Arabia's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for many years, passed away in February 2021.

With the loss of key figures who were well acquainted with the first oil crisis, Daniel Yergin's book "The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power" is becoming an increasingly detailed record telling the historical facts.
