昨日に続き、マイケル・サンデル氏のインタビュー記事関連の内容です。

今回は、コロナ禍で話題になった、”エッセンシャル  ワーカー" についてです。

エッセンシャル  ワーカーとは、
「社会にとって、欠かすことのできない職業にも関わらず、過小評価されて
　いる方々。」

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the vital roles of essential workers and unpaid domestic labor have become more apparent.  Sandel highlights that these contributions are often undervalued despite their critical importance.

vital role = 不可欠な役割
apparent = 明らかな
highlight = 強調する
contribution = 貢献
undervalue = 過小評価する

Essential workers, such as healthcare prefessionals, grocery store employees, and delivery personnel, have kept society functioning, while unpaid domestic labor ensured the well-being of households.

essential = 不可欠な
professional = 職業
function = 機能する
ensure = 保証する
well-being = 福利

「白熱の授業」という、ハーバード大学での授業が、以前取り上げられていましたので、同氏をご存じの方もおられると思います。

ちなみに、2024年10月実施の過去問題での、英検準1級英作文問題のトピックは、
”仕事を探す時に、給与レベルは最も重要か” でした。
