現代の洋画で耳にする頭字語と頭文字語（acronyms and initialism）

書きではなく、会話で使われる頭文字をリストアップしてみました。
これを知るとリスニング力アップ間違いなしです。

ちなみにacronymはAWOLのように「エイウォール」と言葉として発音する頭字語のことです。
initialismはFDAのように「エフディエイ」とアルファベット読みをする頭文字語のことです。

今回のリストではAWOLが唯一の頭字語です。

FDA

(Food and Drug Administration)
アメリカ食品医薬品局
例）The drug needs approval from FDA.

PI

(private investigator)
私立探偵
例）The victim's parents hired a PI.

A/CまたはAC

(air conditioningまたはair conditioner)
空調、エアコン
例）Turn on the AC!

FYI

(for your information)

例）Just FYI, the latest version is much easier to handle.

BS

(bullshit)
でたらめ
例）That is BS.

AWOL

(absence without leave)
無断欠勤、無断外出、行方不明
例）She goes AWOL sometimes.

MIA

(missing in action)
行方不明
例）Her boyfriend went MIA on her.

STD

(sexually transmitted disease)
性感染症
例）Some STDs can be confirmed with a urine sample.

IRS

(Internal Revenue Service)
（アメリカ合衆国）内国歳入庁　※日本の国税庁に相当。
例）Calling the IRS won't speed up your tax refund.

RSVP

(仏：répondez s'il vous plaît　英：respond, if you please)
招待に対する返事、またはその行為
例）She hasn't RSVP'd yet.

ETA

(estimated time of arrival)
到着予定時刻
例）What's your ETA roughly?

TBD

(to be decided, to be determined)
これから決める
例）The party's next Friday, location TBD.

TMI

(too much information)
そこまでの情報は要らない
例）I didn't need to know that. TMI.
