に対して（にたいして）

“に対して” is used to indicate the target of an action or interest.

彼はよく嘘をつくので、我々は彼に対して強い不信感を持っている。　
かれはよくうそをつくので、われわれはかれにたいしてつよいふしんかんをもっている。
He often lies, so we have a strong sense of distrust towards him.

彼の意見に対して反対の人は挙手してください。
かれのいけんにたいしてはんたいのひとはきょしゅしてください。
Those who are against his opinion, please raise your hand.

It is also used to express a contrast between two things.

彼女はピアノが好きなのに対して、彼女の姉はサッカーをするのが好きだ。
かのじょはぴあのがすきなのにたいして、かのじょのあねはさっかーをするのがすきだ。
While she likes playing the piano, her sister prefers playing soccer.

12月の日本は寒くなるのに対して、オーストラリアは暑くなります。
12がつのにほんはさむくなるのにたいして、おーすとらりあはあつくなります。
While Japan becomes cold in December, Australia gets hot.
