反面（はんめん）、一方で（いっぽうで）、代わりに（かわりに）

"反面" is used to express two opposing aspects such as pros and cons, or strengths and weaknesses. Often, it can be interchanged with "一方で" or "代わりに".

この部屋は家賃が安い反面（一方で、代わりに）、とても狭い。
このへやはやちんがやすいはんめん（いっぽうで、かわりに）、とてもせまい。
While this room has cheap rent, it's very small.

この仕事は作業が簡単な反面（一方で、代わりに）、給料は安い。
このしごとはさぎょうがかんたんなはんめん（いっぽうで、かわりに）、きゅうりょうはやすい。
While the work is simple in this job, the pay is low.

"一方で" can also be used to list or contrast two things. In this context, "反面" and "代わりに" are not suitable.

彼はサッカー選手である一方で、ピアニストでもある。
かれはさっかーせんしゅであるいっぽうで、ぴあにすとでもある。
He is a soccer player on one hand, and also a pianist.

彼女は自分に厳しい一方で、他人には優しい。
かのじょはじぶんにきびしいいっぽうで、たにんにはやさしい。
She is strict with herself, but kind to others on the other hand.

この町の家の屋根は全て赤い一方で、隣町の家の屋根は全て白い。
このまちのいえのやねはすべてあかいいっぽうで、となりまちのいえのやねはすべてしろい。
All the roofs of the houses in this town are red, while all the roofs in the neighboring town are white.

"代わりに" can also be used to represent a condition of exchange. In this context, "反面" and "一方で" are not suitable.

彼が彼女に日本語を教える代わりに、彼女は彼に英語を教えている。
かれがかのじょににほんごをおしえるかわりに、かのじょはかれにえいごをおしえている。
He teaches her Japanese in exchange for her teaching him English.

彼のプレゼン資料を作る代わりに、彼に夕飯を奢ってもらった。
かれのぷれぜんしりょうをつくるかわりに、かれにゆうはんをおごってもらった。
In exchange for making his presentation materials, he treated me to dinner.

"代わりに" is also used to describe substituting or representing something or someone else. In this context, "反面" and "一方で" are not suitable.

お店で服を買う代わりに、ネットショップで買う人が増えています。
おみせでふくをかうかわりに、ねっとしょっぷでかうひとがふえています。
Instead of buying clothes in stores, more people are purchasing them online.

今日のプレゼンは、私の代わりに彼女が行います。
きょうのぷれぜんは、わたしのかわりにかのじょがおこないます。
She will be presenting today in my place.
