Arpeggione loved by Schubert Kindle Edition

The arpeggione is a hybrid instrument that was invented in the early 19th century by Johann Georg Staufer.

This Arpeggione(guitar viol) was used by Franz Schubert to compose the Arpeggione sonata D.821. However, the arpeggione disappeared in the mid-20th century and is now almost forgotten.

In this paper, I will introduce the story of a luthier and musician who challenged to revive the arpeggione. The researcher of Arpeggione, who is a member of the Japanese Society for Music Expression, studied the history, structure, and playing techniques of the arpeggione. They also built their own arpeggione and performed Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata on it.

The arpeggione has been forgotten for almost 200 years, but the musician's efforts have brought it back into the spotlight. I hope that the arpeggione will be played more widely in the future and that Schubert's music will be loved by more people.
