渦巻を描く夢を見た

2023年2月27日の明け方、私は不思議な夢を見ていた。真っ白で大きな壁一面に、太く力強い線が力強く伸びていく。縄文時代の渦巻き文様だ。使ったことのない、太いペンで、私は夢中で描き続けていた。

目が覚めても、その感覚が鮮明に残っていた。あの絵を完成させなければ。夢の中で使っていた太いペン。どこかで見たことがあるような…。SNSを片っ端から検索し、ようやく見つけた。GROG社のスクイザーというドリップマーカーだった。迷わず注文ボタンをクリックしたものの、マーカーが届くまでの間、私の心は「描く」という衝動に掻き立てられていた。待ちきれない私は、とりあえず家にあるポスカで、夢の中で見た渦巻き文様を描き始めた。

At dawn on February 27, 2023, I had a strange dream. Thick, strong lines stretched powerfully across a large, white wall. It was a swirling pattern from the Jomon period. I was drawing with a thick pen, which I had never used before, and I was absorbed in the drawing.

When I woke up, the feeling was still vivid. I must finish that painting. The thick pen I was using in my dream. I had seen this pen somewhere before... After searching social networking sites from one end to the other, I finally found it: a drip marker called Squeezer by GROG. Without hesitation, I clicked on the order button, but my mind was stirred by the urge to “draw” until the marker arrived. Unable to wait, I began to draw the swirling patterns I had seen in my dream with Posca, which I had at home anyway.

10年前の衝撃

10年ほど前、息子と東北大学総合学術博物館を訪れた時の出来事は、私にとって忘れられない体験となりました。展示されていた縄文土器に魅せられ、まるでDNAが呼び覚まされたかのような、激しい興奮を覚えたのです。血が沸騰し、心が躍る、これまでに感じたことのない感覚でした。

「これは、私のデザインに活かせるはずだ。これこそが、私が探していた道なのかもしれない。」

そんな確信に突き動かされ、帰宅後、様々なアイデアを練り始めました。しかし、いざデザインに取り組んでみると、一向に着地点が見つからず、諦めてしまいました。

Impact of 10 years ago

A visit to the Tohoku University Museum with my son about 10 years ago was an unforgettable experience for me. I was mesmerized by the Jomon pottery on display and felt a surge of excitement, as if my DNA had been awakened. My blood boiled and my heart leapt, a feeling I had never felt before.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Maybe this is the path I've been looking for.

Moved by this conviction, I went home and began to formulate various ideas. However, when it came time to work on the design, I could not find a single landing point, and I gave up.

渦巻き文様を描き始めた時、私は夢中でその魅力に取り憑かれていました。しかし、いざ描いてみると、夢に見た鮮やかなイメージの渦巻とはどこか違う。その違和感は、私を縄文時代の土器や土偶の世界へと深く引き込みました。

ネット上で無数の縄文時代の物を目にする度に、私はその奥深い表現力に心を奪われました。土器、土偶、土版、それぞれの造形美は、古代の人々の豊かな想像力と技術の高さを物語っていました。
「リアルに描くのではなく、デフォルメしてポップに！」
このシンプルな発想が、私の創作活動に新たな風を吹き込みました。縄文の持つ原始的な力強さと、ポップアートのカラフルで楽しい要素を融合させる。このアイデアこそが「縄文ポップアート」という新たな表現を生み出したのです。

その瞬間、私の頭の中には、過去に経験した様々な出来事が鮮やかに蘇りました。漫画家やイラストレーターの作品、手描きのチラシ、そして大切な人たちとの出会い。それらの断片的な記憶が、まるでパズルのように組み合わさり、今やるべきことが見えました。それは、縄文ポップアートを世の中の人に知ってもらうこと。そう確信した私は、我を忘れて絵筆を握りました。インスタグラムに作品をアップする度に、私の心は満たされていきました。お金になるかどうかなんて、そんなことはどうでもよかったのです。ただ、描くこと、表現すること、それだけで私は幸せを感じていました。

半年後、個展を開催することになるとは、その時は全く想像もしていませんでした。縄文ポップアートとの出会いは、私の人生を一変させ、新たな可能性を切り開いてくれたのです。

Jomon Pop Art

When I first started drawing swirl patterns, I was hooked and fascinated by them. However, when I finally tried to draw them, they were somehow different from the vivid images of whirlpools I had dreamed of. This sense of discomfort drew me deeply into the world of Jomon period earthenware and clay figurines.

Every time I saw countless Jomon period objects on the Internet, I was captivated by their profound expressiveness. Earthenware, clay figurines, clay tablets, the beauty of each object's form spoke of the rich imagination and skill of the ancient people. I thought to myself, “Instead of painting them realistically, deform them and make them pop!” This simple idea has given a new lease of life to my creative process. Combining the primitive strength of the Jomon with the colorful and fun elements of Pop Art. This idea is what gave birth to the new expression of “Jomon Pop Art.

At that moment, my mind vividly recalled various events I had experienced in the past. The works of cartoonists and illustrators, hand-drawn flyers, and encounters with important people. These fragmented memories came together like a puzzle, and I could see what I needed to do now. I knew what I had to do now, and that was to make the world aware of Jomon Pop Art. Convinced of this, I grabbed my paintbrush and forgot about myself. Every time I uploaded my work to Instagram, my heart was filled with joy. I didn't care if it was worth money or not. Just painting and expressing myself was enough to make me happy.

I had no idea at the time that six months later I would be holding a solo exhibition. My encounter with Jomon Pop Art changed my life and opened up new possibilities.
