イギリス中銀、物価の高止まり懸念し、金利据え置き

ヨーロッパ経済ニュースEUROPE NNAは2024年12月20日に、イギリス中央銀行イングランド銀行(Bank of Englend)は2024年12月19日に、前日に開いたMPC(Monetary Policy Committee/金融政策委員会)で、政策金利を4.75%に据え置くことを決めたと発表した。
2024年11月にインフレが再加速し、長期的な物価の高止まりが懸念されているためで、据え置きは市場の予想通りであった。

議事録によると、金利据え置きは金融政策委員9人のうちベイリー総裁(Andrew Bailey, Chair)を含む6人が支持したが、3人は0.25ポイントの利下げを主張した。

ベイリー総裁は、「今後も段階的に利下げを進めるのが適切であることに変わりはない」とした上で、「経済見通しが不透明化しているため、来年のいつ、どの程度の利下げを行うかは約束できない」と説明。中銀は「インフレ率の目標値である2%を持続的に」達成する必要があるとしている。

11月のインフレ率は2.6%と、前月の2.3%から加速して8カ月ぶりの高水準となった。中銀は、インフレ率が「短期的にやや上昇し続ける」との見方を示している。

イギリスではここへきて景気の見通しが悪化している。
GDP(Gross Domestic Product/国内総生産)は09月と10月に連続して縮小しており、中銀は今回、第4四半期(10～12月)のGDP成長率見通しについて、11月時点の予測の0.3%から0%に引き下げた。

こうした中、今回、利下げを主張した金融政策委員らは、需要低迷と労働市場の軟化に懸念を示し、「リスクのバランスが変化していることを考えれば、政策金利の引き下げが妥当」との考えを示している。
