After their inspection by the mayor and various firefighting commanders, the roughly 700 community firefighters who appeared at the community firefighting commencement ceremony displayed controlled movements as they marched in file with their trucks.
“In times of emergency, community firefighters must protect the lives and property of city residents. Recognizing the weight of your duties, please train your minds and bodies,” instructed community firefighter commander HORI Kōji. Currently, more than 1,100 Date City community firefighters keep the region safe on a daily basis. The community firefighters who participated showed their renewed resolve as they greeted the new year.

The Super Extravagance of the Super Bowl
February has many celebrations and events, but there is only one that sports fans across America anticipate the most; the Super Bowl. This is the final playoff game of the National Football League (NFL) and takes place during the second Sunday in February. Millions of viewers watch every year, making it the most watched broadcast in the US. Families and friends often gather together to watch while indulging in classic Super Bowl party food and drink.
While the Super Bowl is known for being a battle for the top in American football, it is not the only battle that wages during this much anticipated time of the year. Once the television cuts away from the battle on the football field, the competition of commercials begins. Due to the extremely high viewership, companies pay millions of dollars for only 30 seconds of screen time. With that exorbitant price tag, they put care in making sure their advertisements are worth being watched. Interesting storylines, gorgeous visuals, and catchy songs are just a few of the strategies deployed during this capitalistic competition. Commercials aired during this time often have the quality and feel of blockbuster films.
The commercial game is amped up so much that some people, like me, watch the Super Bowl solely for the artistry of the commercials. Others, however, may tune in around the halftime show, when a famous artist takes what is most likely the biggest stage of their life. To capture the attention of such a large audience, traditionally top household names, such as Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, and Prince, have been invited. With sportsmanship, music, and the chaos and range of high-budgeted commercials, the Super Bowl appeals to a wide audience. If given the opportunity, perhaps give it a view and see what you think of this spectacularly extravagant event that captures the unwavering attention of many Americans every year!
