Beautiful Animals and Scenery in Masai Mara
Masai Mara is a wildlife reserve in Kenya, Africa. It is a famous place to visit in Africa since it has millions of wild animals who are living free to roam within the huge reserve which is about 100 of kilometers across from point to point. in January I went to this location for a Safari tour and it was an amazing trip for me!
Masai Mara has now actually been voted as one of the natural wonders of the world. This reserve is also famous for its wildebeest migration which takes place once a year between July to September. During this time millions of wildebeest migrate slowly from Serengeti National park which is located in Tanzania, northwards into Masai Mara Kenya .On the way they have to cross large rivers which have large Nile Crocodiles, and as they are crossing the river, the crocodiles attack and feed on the wildebeest. It is quite a unique sight!
This annual migration attracts many tourists and this is the time from July to October that prices for staying inside the reserve are quite high.Rooms can cost between US$ 200 per double to USD 3000 per night depending on if you choose budget or luxury hotels.
We also managed to see the most amazing animals including Lions, Leopard, Cheetah [many], Rhino, Elephant and African Buffalo as well as graceful Giraffe and Zebra. In fact I cannot imagine any other place in the world with so many wild animals. You can see the full list of wildlife here. During our safari game drives in special vehicles, we managed to see many animals within 2 hours including a pride of lionesses near the road.
To visit this place in Africa, you need to fly to Nairobi which is the capital city of Nairobi. From here we managed to hire a 4x4 car rental from this company in Nairobi.
As for accommodation we stayed at a deluxe tented camp which means you have excellent comforts like in a hotel but still remain close to nature. Here is a photo of our camp room.
After our Safari in Masai Mara for 3 days, we eventually went to Amboseli for another 2 nights stay as this park is also very beautiful and is at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. This park is a little cheaper to visit though still we ended up paying entry fee of US$ 60 per adult per night.( you can see Kenya park entry fee here). There are fewer lodges here but still very good quality.
Finally we were driven back to Nairobi for our return flight back home from the Jomo Kenyatta International airport which is quite a modern airport though small in size compared to major airports in the world. All in all a wonderful Safari trip indeed !Many major airlines are flying to Nairobi including British Airways, KLM, Emirates, Lufthansa and Qatar airlines.
