Should we ban movies with violent scenes?
This topic was talked in one episode from KER, Kevin’s English Room Podcast, updated on April 3rd in 2022. I’ve checked it just now, and I wanna give some pieces of thoughts about this topic as the training for my Eiken test.
Below is my essay.
I do not think we should ban movies with violent scenes for the following two reasons.
First of all, most movies are still safe in that they will not be released without having checked by film companies or directors. In fact, there are some movies which contains some violent scenes, like those with murders or physical abuses. However, those movies usually give an advance notice to let the audience know that it contains some violent scenes. Additionally, film makers will set the age limit if the movies should not be seen by younger people.
Next, sometimes movies cannot express their main theme if they remove all the violent scenes. Take the movie on wars an example. When the film maker tries to claim the cluelty of wars and wants the audience to think about world peace through the movie, actor's fight or death can be effective.
In conclusion, I believe violent scenes in movies usually do not lead to a major problem, as long as the movie director appropriately create the film and the audience can choose whether to see those kinds of movies. If anything, movies can play a role of educational information about sensitive yet important issue.
