Encounters with people I respect （謦咳に接する）

It took me time to write this article. I needed time to think about who I should write about. I have several people who I respect in my life. One of them is my senior colleague who I met in a company. I learnt a lot about the basics of business from him. I also learnt about how to use English in business from him. In the beginning, I was terrible at both. I had no experience  of foreign business and did not know what to do. So, I made a lot of mistakes and caused him a lot of trouble. But he was very patient with me and waited for me to grow up at work. He also developed my business English. At first, I was very poor at it, but I learnt it a lot from him. In particular, I learnt a lot about English writing from him. I read a lot of his written English to learn. In retrospect, if it had not been for him, I would not be what I am today.
I have another senior colleague who I have never forgotten. He taught me how to get along with my bosses and other senior colleagues. He gave me a lot of chances to meet, and talk to, them. So I was able to have good conversations, and build good relationships, with them. I also used to go on a pub crawl with them after work.
It was in the first company I worked for after graduating that I met them. It was founded in a small town in Nagano, where most of my bosses and senior colleagues came from. So, they are very nice and friendly. I would not have left them without a terrible incident. The company was subject to a T.O.B., which was very rare in those days. I have hardly seen them since I left the company. I really appreciate their support and help.

　この記事を書くのに時間がかかりました。誰について書くべきかを考えるのに時間を要しました。ボクにも尊敬する人が何人かいます。そのうちの一人は、会社の先輩です。この先輩からは、ビジネスの基本について多くを学びました。また、ビジネス英語についても学びました。ボクは、当初、どちらも苦手でした。海外ビジネスの経験もなかったし、何をすればいいのかもわかりませんでした。なので、ミスを連発して迷惑をかけました。でも、先輩は、とても辛抱強く、ボクが成長するのを見守ってくれました。また、ボクのビジネス英語を伸ばす助けにもなりました。最初はとても下手だったのですが、先輩からたくさん学びました。特に、英作文については多くを学びました。先輩の英文をたくさん読んで学びました。振り返ってみると、この先輩がいなかったら、今のボクはなかったと思います。
　もう一人、忘れられない先輩がいます。この先輩からは、上司や他の先輩との付き合い方を教えてもらいました。上司や先輩と会って話す機会をたくさん作ってくれました。おかげで、会話も弾み、良い関係を築くことができました。また、仕事が終わるとよく飲み歩きました。
　こうした先輩と出会ったのは、大学卒業とに就職した最初の会社でした。長野県の小さな町で誕生した会社で、上司や先輩のほとんどがその地域の出身でした。そのため、皆さん、とても親切でフレンドリーでした。この会社にとんでもない事が起こらなかったら、彼らと別れることはなかったと思います。会社が、当時としては珍しいT.O.B.を受けたのです。会社を辞めてからはほとんど会っていません。皆さんのサポートに本当に感謝です。
