about CatFishBird ＆ the Maquis ／ 猫魚鳥 ＆ マキ人 (マキ族)　について

　Some of you may have heard of CatFishBird. Yes, it is a bird that was worshipped by the ancient Maquis.

　猫魚鳥のことを聞いたことがある人もいることでしょう。そうです、古代マキ人たちが信仰していた鳥です。

　CatFishBird is a holy creature that combines the advantages of a cat, a fish, and a bird. It is a transcendent being that moves freely, not to mention climbing over the fence of the neighbor's house, on land, in water, and in the air, transcending topographical boundaries such as mountains, rivers, and oceans, as well as man-made boundaries such as countries and ethnic groups, to convey its willful laws throughout the entire world.

　猫魚鳥は、猫、魚、鳥の長所を併せ持っている聖なる生物です。隣家の塀を乗り越えることはもちろん、陸上・水中・空中を自在に移動し、山・川・海などの地形的な境界も、国・民族といった人為的な境界も超えて、全宇宙の意志ある法則を世界に伝える超越的な存在です。

　Starting from the African continent, the Maquis spread to various parts of the world, and till by the thousands of years B.C., they established large sedentary communities that formed the basis of ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Indus, the Yellow River (China), and the Maya.
　Their tendency not to be bothered by travel and migration was not lost in these processes, and they spread to northern Europe, Australia, and the North American continent etc. Perhaps it was the influence of the cat-fish-bird belief?

　マキ人は、アフリカ大陸を起点に世界各地へ広がってゆき、西洋暦の紀元前数千年頃までにエジプト・メソポタミア・インダス・黄河（中国）、マヤといった古代文明の基礎となる定住型大規模共同体を築いた人々です。
　旅や移動を苦にしない彼等の傾向は、こうした過程でも失われることなく、やがては北欧、オーストラリア、北米大陸等へも広がってゆきました。猫魚鳥信仰の影響もあったのでしょうか？

　However, they rapidly declined and disappeared from world history.  The reason for their disappearance is still unknown. Although there are peoples scattered around the world who are presumed to be descendants of the Maquis, their distinctive culture and way of life were lost thousands of years ago, and there are few traces of them.

　しかし、その後急速に衰退し、世界史上から姿を消してしまい、その原因についてはまだ判っていません。世界各地には彼等の末裔と推定される民族が散在しているものの、マキの特徴的な文化や生活様式はすでに数千年前に失われており、痕跡がほとんど見られません。

　On the other hand, there is a theory that there were people in Japan who continued to maintain the culture of the Maquis until the 12th century in the Middle Ages, and once Japan was leading the research.  Recently, a volume of research written in the early 20th century has been discovered, along with the late manuscript of its author in Kyoto, and has attracted the attention of a few researchers again.

　一方、日本においては中世の12世紀までマキ人の文化を維持し続けていた人々が存在していたという説があり、かつて日本がその研究をリードしていました。そして近年、20世紀初めに書かれた研究書の一冊が著者の遺稿と共に京都で発見されたため、再び少数の研究者たちの注目を集めています。
