#013 Single x A Neat Studio Room
1. The Trigger: One-Stop Service
T-san, who manages a beauty salon in Harajuku, had a clear concept of the living space he wanted to create, given his profession involving exposure to various information related to fashion and miscellaneous goods. He came across Blue Studio’s “Pre-owned Apartment + Renovation" service package during his search for a design company that could help realize the vision he had. That discovery prompted him to attend a personal consultation with us.
2. Real Estate Hunting: A 40㎡ Studio Apartment in the Heart of the City
Initially, the search was focused on finding a property where a salon could be opened while residing there. Despite introducing many properties, the stringent regulations of apartments posed considerable challenges.
Consequently, the direction shifted, aiming to live within walking distance from the salon. The goal was achieved with a property accessible on foot from Shibuya, Kamiyama, and Ikejiri-Ohashi. Situated atop a small hill, this compact apartment offers good ventilation.
3. Renovation: Flexible and Neat
By clearly defining what is essential and what is not, we were able to plan the compact space efficiently. The original 2DK layout was transformed into an open studio space with a closet inspired by Carrie's apartment in SEX AND THE CITY.
4. Completion: Blank Space
A rustic and masculine atmosphere was created with concrete, stainless steel, and iron utilized throughout the space. The structural concrete walls and ceiling were decided to be kept exposed to express its texture. In contrast to the raw texture of the interior, a combination of subdued pink and green-tinged blue-gray tiles was chosen for the bathroom.
5. Completion: Fifth
A rustic studio room with a touch of sweetness was completed. We were able to progress through the meetings smoothly with a shared vision by having a clear concept in mind at the very beginning. T-san’s refined aesthetic sense was expressed through the careful use of materials throughout the space.
