PorteuX is a Linux distribution based on Slackware Linux, inspired by Slax and Porteus and available to the public for free. Its main goal is to be fast, small, portable (run from a thumb drive), modular and optionally immutable. It is pre-configured for basic usage, including lightweight applications for each one of the seven desktop environments (Cinnamon, GNOME, KDE Plasma, LXDE, LXQt, MATE and Xfce) available. No browser is included, but an app store is provided for downloading any of the most popular browsers, as well as other applications.

To install Porteus on a USB drive, follow these steps:
Download the Porteus ISO file from the official website23.
Prepare your USB drive:
Format the USB drive to FAT323.

During installation:

Additional Notes
Porteus runs as a live distribution from RAM, allowing you to carry it on a USB drive2.
For optimal performance and the ability to save sessions, use the Porteus installer rather than tools like Rufus or Etcher2.
If using a Linux filesystem (e.g., EXT4), ensure the /porteus folder has 'guest' ownership for automatic saving of changes6.
For Windows filesystems (FAT or NTFS), use the PorteuX Save Session application after booting to create a '.dat' file container for saving changes6.
