[cEDH] Omnath, Locus of Creation - Angry Nadu -
Introduction
Omnath, Locus of Creation, is a unique commander that can be built in various ways. Nevertheless, four years have passed since its launch, and Omnath's main winning strategies have generally been concentrated on the Dockside, Breach, and Food Chain axes. The various research findings are summarized in the following excellent article.

Fortunately, I could use Omnath to achieve good results at the summer cEDH tournament. In this article, I have put together my considerations for adding the Nadu, Winged Wisdom axis as another strategy.
Nadu & Bant Nadu
Since its release, excellent deck builders in Japan have been studying decks with Nadu as the commander. They continued to explain and communicate Nadu's impact on the environment logically. I was impressed by their statement that the first step in fighting Nadu is to correctly identify whether the Nadu is an Ad Nauseam or a source of advantage.
The idea of using Nadu as an Ad Nauseam is also active in Legacy environments such as Bant Nadu combined with Nomads en-Kor. Various Bant Color commanders have considered it, and I believe Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, is one of the most enhanced decks.
The general winning strategy for Nadu and Bant Nadu is to chain advantages. The following three are the main methods.
Kings (Mainly Nadu use this strategy)
Clones (Mainly Bant Nadus use this strategy)
Flicker (Optional)
Bant Nadu for Omnath
Unlike when I designated Nadu as a commander, I wanted to use it as Ad Nauseam, not as a means to gain an advantage. Also, I expect to win within the same turn as possible. Considering that I will use Nadu as a combo package in the Omnath Deck, I aim to make a combo from turns 4 to 6. This is a slightly late goal, but it's difficult to fight at speed against decks of the Rograkh lineage in Grixis or Rakdos colors. To do so, I must incorporate a certain amount of turn 1-3 means of interfering with your opponent, recovering consumed resources, and deciding on combos.
The Flicker Package is the best match for Omnath's chain part. Although used for different purposes, Spellseeker Package (Ephemerate) and Emiel the Blessed have also been used in Omnath. In addition to this, I decided to adopt the Displacer Kitten Package (Eternal Witness / Mox Diamond / Lotus Petal) as a Win Combo. I wanted to adopt a method that could actively generate infinite mana in some way, even if it meant using a large number of cards.
Displacer Kitten / Lotus Petal & Mox Diamond / Eternal Witness >> Infinite Mana
+ Wrenn and Six / Emiel the Blessed or Snap >> Infinite Damage
Wrenn and Six fit well with the current composition, with a turn-to-win slightly behind. She can blame Rograkh for being installed so easily or can continue to supply Fetch land. If I don't equip the Breach Axis combo, Emiel the Blessed tends to take on too much burden.
To consistently connect Chain combos with Nadu, you need to have at least 32-33 lands in your deck and have two creatures other than Nadu and Kor at the start. This restriction is significant for a typical cEDH deck, but it's not bad for Omnath. Ideally, I want to accelerate mana on turns 1-2, cast Omnath on turns 2-3, and continue using Fetch Land on turns four and beyond. Adopting 32-33 pieces of land on the deck will help you achieve this move. It is essential to be able to make this move, so playing Omnath on your second or third turn is unnecessary. The top priority is to reach your fourth turn safely.
cEDH local rules in Japan
Hareruya, one of Japan's most famous Magic the Gathering specialty stores, holds tournaments of various sizes for EDH. Hareruya's rules are the most significant in Japan's cEDH environment. The three essential points are as follows.
Each game lasts 60 minutes.
In the event of a tie, all players are considered to have lost.
Proxy cards are not accepted.
Due to these rules, cedh decks played in Japan often have a slightly unusual composition. Also, due to time constraints, it is not recommended to overthink, so I think it is better to have a composition that allows you to run through the chain combo more stably.
Deck Strategy
As I have discussed so far, to incorporate Nadu into Omnath as a combo, it is necessary to reorganize the entire deck around Nadu. If I assume the victory turn to turn 4-6, I can partially use the deck components that adjust Nadu to the mid-range as a reference.
32-33: Lands
15: Mana Accelerator to be placed until the second turn (For playing Omnath on turns 2-3. I can accept Lotus Petal for this purpose)
12: Continuous Mana Accelerator to be placed on the first turn
25: Interactions (I need 12-14 counter spells at least)
20: Win combo slots (including search)
8: Sub general
21: Advantage resources (*)
Naturally, there are limits to the number of categories I can adopt for our decks, so I think cards that can be used in multiple categories are precious.
Sub General is a card that allows you to make a plan at the time of keeping. In many cases, it also serves as an Advantage resource.
32-33 Lands
Dryad Arbor has become established as Omnath's Win Combo. If you draw it, put it on the field via Mox Diamond or Finale of Devastation. Even if your opponent exiles Dryad Arbor, it is essential to have a strategy ready that will allow you to win.
Of the 33 lands that can be added to the deck, 31 are almost always fixed. I recommend that you choose one of five color lands. The 33rd piece of land is a utility and adjustment area. You can also delete the utility frame to reduce the number of pieces of land to be used.
15 Mana Accelerators
If possible, I would not like to use Elvish Mystic. This is not only because it can only generate green mana but also because it is an elf. To play Utopia Sprawl and Arbor Elf stably, I need to add one more “Forest” to our deck. Nissa, Resurgent Animist, is compatible with the current composition, so I'm considering adopting it with Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth. If you want to narrow the number of lands to 32, I recommend using Elvish Mystic.
I added the Dockside Extortionist and Lotus Petal as additional mana accelerators. I recently said Mana Crypt. It doesn't contribute to Omnath's cast, but being able to accelerate it by two mana was more potent than that. Mockingbird can relax the mulligan criteria by copying the opponent's mana creature.
I also recommend adopting another mana acceleration, but there are many options. Fanatic of Rhonas is compatible with Pollywog Prodigy. Restore is a card you don't see often, but it can trigger Landfall twice with a single card and be used as material for Win Combo after I achieve infinite mana. I didn't use Snap in my previous list, so this combo helped reduce the load on Dryad Arbor.
Eternal Witness / Emiel the Blessed / Restore / Fetch Land / Omnath, Locus of Creation >> Infinite Damage
Bloom Tender is an excellent card for Omnath, but it has the drawback of low toughness. I do not recommend this because buying hate from your opponent is easy.
25 Interactions
Due to the nature of the Nadu combo, Land is difficult to use as an Interaction. For this reason, I recommend adding this slot when narrowing down the number of Land cards to 32. I have 33 pieces of Land this time, so I have compromised on one piece.
If I can add Talon Gates of Madara to my deck, I can add Crop Rotation to the Interaction Slot, which is an attractive option.
20: Win combo slots
Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer is the best one to incorporate Bant Nadu into Omnath. It’s difficult to counter and can also increase the number of Nadu seeds. There is no Win combo using Spellseeker, but it is compatible with Nadu and is a key card when you are forced to play Advantage Game, so I have left it in.
Nissa, Resurgent Animist, was inspired by the strength of Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer. I had previously used a combo of Ashaya, Soul of the Wild, and Quirion Ranger. At that time, combining Nissa, Resurgent Animist, and Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer, allowed me to enter the combo smoothly. Under the Nadu combo, Nissa, Resurgent Animist also serves as a mana support source, which can be considered a second finisher, and it was more helpful than I had imagined. Gamble is a free-form search method. I'm searching for the optimal solution by replacing the cards listed here.
10: Sub general
I think the conditions for becoming a Sub Commander in Omnath are as follows.
Total four mana or less (Set it up with four mana after Omnath and Fetch)
The same color is up to a single symbol.
Increase my hand +α
If possible, I would like to add another card to this slot to stabilize the Mulligan criteria. I am considering Yusri, Fortune's Flame as one of the candidates. As a side plan, I also like smashing down large blue creatures from creature search. Still, I think that due to the increase in the speed of the environment and the accompanying rise in Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast, it is necessary to view it as Advantage Source rather than Sub Commander.
20: Advantage resources
Although I don't want to be too aggressive, in a situation where you want to buy time for 1-2 turns in an environment with few creature removal options, you can take a midrange approach centered around the Blink Package. Displacer Kitten and Nadu, Winged Wisdom are firm in this move, but the drawback is that it is easy to buy Hate because of the move's convenience of gaining an advantage just before winning. If you want to strengthen the exit of this route, I recommend adding Etali and Primal Conqueror.
Clone-type cards like Phyrexian Metamorph are safe choices, but you should know you don't want to fight with this Range.
Deck List
The latest deck list can be found below.
I reduced the number of lands from the previous tournament and removed the Commander Pitch Spell. Instead, I increased the number of sub-commanders to make it easier to pull off combos reliably.
Conclusion
In conclusion, integrating Nadu, Winged Wisdom into an Omnath, Locus of Creation deck offers a fresh and competitive strategy for cEDH play. By leveraging the unique strengths of Nadu as an Ad Nauseam-like combo piece, this build aims to achieve a win within turns 4-6, balancing speed and resilience against faster decks like those in the Rograkh lineage.
The deck's structure, with 32-33 lands, a mix of mana accelerators, interactions, and win combo slots, ensures a stable and consistent performance. The strategic use of sub-generals and advantage resources further enhances the deck's flexibility and ability to adapt to various game states. Additionally, the specific considerations for the Japanese cEDH environment, such as the 60-minute game limit and the prohibition of proxy cards, have been carefully addressed to optimize the deck's performance in local tournaments. I plan to continue playing Omnath. Please let me know if you have any good ideas for X or Discord. Thank you for reading this long article. Have a fun cEDH life!
