The Difference Between Prediction and Gambling
In Pokémon battles, "prediction" and "gambling" are fundamentally different concepts. However, most players fail to understand the difference between the two.
Prediction involves carefully considering risk and reward, analyzing the overall flow of the match, and selecting the move that is most effective against the action the opponent is likely to take. This is a rational and strategic process.
Gambling, on the other hand, is simply taking a chance. It involves relying on intuition or luck without properly considering the opponent's actions.
The Importance of Consistency
To consistently maintain a high rank (2000+ Elo) in Pokémon battles, stability is paramount. "Gambling" can be exhilarating when it works and is often praised, but it’s not a demonstration of skill; it’s simply winning a game of rock-paper-scissors. Results obtained through non-repeatable plays are merely instances of "good luck" and cannot lead to sustained success. Players must avoid making risky decisions that could immediately lead to defeat.
This is a fundamental principle in Pokémon battles.
Risk-Taking Is a Last Resort
Risk-taking should only be considered as a last resort when absolutely necessary. Players who are unable to win with stable plays, or in other words, without taking unnecessary risks, have already failed at the team-building stage.
