Shinichi Ito(Mapman)’s First Paperback “ASD IELTS"

Shinichi Ito (Mapman) published his first book,” ASD IELTS”.

On March 7th, a bilingual (English and Japanese) writer, Shinichi Ito (His nickname is Mapman), published “ASD IELTS” his first paperback. He appreciated every reader who celebrated to release of his book.

Why did he publish this English book?

Shinichi has three reasons why he started his English book.

First, he was interested in learning English in his 20s. Shinichi used to aim for a travel agency but had been diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Some travel agency recruiters asked him in their job interview, “Could you work in English?” Shinichi could not answer it. In addition, there were few resources for learning English in Sapporo in 2006. For such reason, he made up his mind to learn English.

Second, Shinichi would have liked to learn English by enjoying himself. He began his original Japanese blog in 2006. He had been describing his tips and solutions for various ASD issues. In 2009, his milestone came suddenly. Shinichi started his job at the hotel. As it happened this year, he met a lot of English resources, such as English cafes, podcasts, and English songs. He found his pleasure in using English.

Third, Shinichi would have liked to improve his English skills by keeping four skill balances (Speaking, Reading, Listening, and Writing). In 2011, Shinichi took the TOEIC test in Japan. But he also has characteristics of ADHD. It takes more than two hours for such a person to keep their motivation. For this reason, Shinichi could not get his best score because he could not concentrate on the test. But Shinichi has not given up studying English. He changed his strategies, and which textbook changed from TOEIC to IELTS.

There is no doubt that he thought this strategy was correct. People with ASD can become overly focused on their favourites, such as trains, travel, languages, and art. There are so many interesting IELTS topics. Moreover, Shinichi loves reading books. He often goes to the local library, bookstore, and study room. The IELTS test requires candidates to write (or speak) their own words. As a result, Shinichi could keep his motivation. He could raise his score from 4.0 to 5.0 in five years.
