Water is our most important natural resource. Yet, although water covers most of the Earth, only 2.5% of it is salt-free. Demand for fresh water has risen sharply in the ( 1 ) 50 years, and it is still rising. That’s already causing serious problems. （いくつかの川を）浄化するために手段が取られています
「be being 過去分詞」は、受け身の進行形です。
