今回は、英語が苦手な生徒を多く指導し、合格させてきた、あらたつ先生と、フィリピンで英語の先生をやっているナルト先生（ペンネーム）の「フィリピンの文化」について前回に引き続きの雑談です。是非参考にして下さい。

□ まずは雑談（飛ばしてOKです。笑）

ナルト先生: あらたつ先生 こんにちは！元気ですか？
(Hey, Aratatsu-sensei! Good morning! How are you?)

あらたつ先生: おはようございます！
(Good morning! )

ナルト先生: 調子はどうですか？
(How's it going? )

あらたつ先生: 昨日熱中症になりました（笑）
(I had a head stroke yesterday. Haha)

ナルト先生: 本当ですか。
(Oh)

あらたつ先生: でも問題ないです！蒸し暑い中、外でソフトボールをやったら熱中症になりました（汗）
(But I am okay! After playing softball outside in the hot and humid weather, I had it! Haha)

ナルト先生: そうなんですね（汗）どんな感じになるんですか？
(Oh my. How does a head stroke feel like?) 

あらたつ先生: ぼくの場合、視界が悪くなって吐きました。笑
(In my case, something was wrong with my eye and I vomited! Haha)

ナルト先生: うわ！吐き気があったんですね。
(Ah You got nauseous!)

あらたつ先生: だけど、大丈夫です。年に一回はなります！（笑）
(However, I am okay and I have a head stroke once a year! Haha)

ナルト先生: 1年に1回（汗）そんなに重大じゃないの？
(Once a year! Haha. Isn't it something serious?)

あらたつ先生: めちゃくちゃ苦しいですが慣れています（笑）
(I mean I get accustomed to it though it makes me suffer a lot ! Haha)

ナルト先生: （笑）大丈夫と聞いて安心しました！
(Haha. Good to hear that you are okay!)

あらたつ先生: 心配ありがとうございます！
(Thank you for your worries!)

ナルト先生: 次回は気をつけてください、あらたつ先生！
(You should be careful next time, Aratatsu! )

あらたつ先生: わかりました！絶対にかかりたくないです！
(Sure! I really don’t want to have it again Haha)

□ フィリピンではマナー違反！これは日本でも同じ

あらたつ先生: フィリピンで悪いマナーって何ですか？
(What are “bad” manners in the Philippines?)

ナルト先生: えーと、共通のものだけ！いくつか例をあげると、他人の家でスリッパを履くのはマナーが悪いけど、自分の家ではOKですね。日本ではかなり普通のことだと知っていますが、ここフィリピンでは普通じゃないですね。
(Ah. Just the common ones, actually! For some, it's bad manners to wear your slippers inside someone else's house, but it's okay to do it in your own house. Haha.
I know it is a very common thing in Japan, but it's not that common here in the Philippines. Haha.)

あらたつ先生: そうなんですか？なぜスリッパを履くことは悪いこと何ですか？
(Really? Why is wearing slippers a bad things?)

ナルト先生: 家の中では、って意味です。
(I mean inside the house. )

あらたつ先生: それを見るとどう感じますか？
(What do you feel when you see it?)

ナルト先生: 個人的にはあまり気にならないんですが、僕の妻は同じスリッパで中に入ってくると怒ります（笑）
(Personally I don't really care about it, but my wife gets angry when I walk from the outside all the way inside with the same set of slippers. Haha.)

あらたつ先生: 外で使うスリッパを中で履くって意味ですよね？
(You mean that wearing slippers used outside is used inside house, right? )

ナルト先生: そうする人もいます。ときどき僕も事故でやってしまいます（笑）
(Some people do it. Sometimes I do it by accident. Haha.)

あらたつ先生: なるほど。フィリピンでは家に入るときは靴を脱ぐんですか？
(I see. In the Philippines, when you enter your house, do you take off your shoes?)

ナルト先生: 脱ぎます！外に！だけどあまり気にしない人もいます。笑
(Yep! We leave it outside too, but then again, some people don't care that much. Haha.)

あらたつ先生: なるほど！アメリカ人は家に入るとき、靴を脱がないって聞きました。
(I see! I heard Americans do not take off their shoes when they enter house.)

ナルト先生: 笑。家の中にカーペットがあったら最悪ですね。
(Haha. I guess so. That would be really bad if they have carpet inside. )

あらたつ: 笑
(Haha)

ナルト先生: 掃除するのは本当に大変です！
(That's really hard to clean!)

あらたつ先生: もし犬のフンを踏んで中に入ったら、どうするんですかね？
(If they step dog’s shit and come into their house, what will they do?)

ナルト先生: それ！やばいですね（笑）良いマナーの例はありますか？
(That's it! That's the problem. Haha. What are some examples of good manners?)

あらたつ先生: 日本で？
(In Japan?)

ナルト先生: はい！もしくは一般的に🙂
(Yep! Or in general. 🙂)

あらたつ先生: 日本では食べ始めるとき、「いただきます」と言わなければなりません。
(You have to say “Itadakimasu” when you begin to eat in Japan.)

ナルト先生: あー！聞いたことあります。どういう意味ですか？
(Ah! I heard that before. What does it mean?)

あらたつ先生: 「感謝しながら食べます」的な意味です。
(It means like “I will eat this with the thankful feeling”)

ナルト先生: あーわかりました。
(Ah! Got it.)

あらたつ先生: もし言わなければ、マナーが悪い印象を与えます（笑）
(If you do not say it, you give an impression that you have bad manners. Haha)

ナルト先生: なるほど！SNSで何かよいマナーは有ります？
(I see! Are there any good manners to follow on social networking sites?)

あらたつ先生: ええーと、嘘の情報を投稿すべきでないということです（笑）
(Well, it is that you should not post false information. Haha)

ナルト先生: なぜそれがよいマナーだと思いますか？
(Why do you think it is important to have good manners?)

あらたつ先生: お互いを尊重して、他人の感情を傷つけてはいけないからじゃないですか？
(Thant is because you should respect others and should not injure others feelings, right?)

ナルト先生: ですね。それは人間の中心の価値観だと信じたいです。私たちは１つの社会で、お互いに関心を持つべきだと思います。
(That's right. It is the core value of humans, I believe. We are a society, so we should care about each other.)

□ フィリピン人を人前で叱ってはいけない！は本当か？

あらたつ先生: 名言ですね！話はかわりますが、フィリピンのマナーについてオンラインである記事を読んだんですが、
(Well said! By the way, I read an article online about the manners in the Philippines.)

ナルト先生: 何と書かれていたんですか？
(What does the website say?)

あらたつ先生: 上司でさえも部下を叱るときでさえ、フィリピンでは、人前で叱ることはとても失礼と書いていました。本当ですか？
(It says that scolding someone in front of others is really impolite in the Philippines even if your bosses scold their subordinates. Is it right?)

ナルト先生: 本当です（笑）あまり起こらないけど、たまに人前で叱られます。
(Right. Haha. It's not very common, but it happens.)

あらたつ先生: ボスたちは、他の人が聞いたり見たりできないところで部下を叱らなければならないんですよね？
(So, bosses have to scold their subordinates where others cannot hear or see, right?)

ナルト先生: そうです！僕らはよく部下を個室によんで、そこで話します。みんなの前では普通はどならないですね（笑）
(Yep! We often ask our subordinates in a private meeting room and talk him there. We don't usually go shouting in front of everyone. Haha.)

あらたつ先生: 興味深いです
(That’s interesting)


ナルト先生: そうですね！でもなぜですか？日本ではそうならないんですか？笑
(Yep! Why? Does it not happen in Japan? Haha. )

あらたつ先生: なりません（笑）
(No! Haha)

ナルト先生: そうなんですか？つまり人前で怒られるってことですか？
(Really? So scolding happens in public?)

あらたつ先生: はい、よくみる光景です！
(Yes, it often happens!)

ナルト先生: そうなんですか？いやですね。もし自分に起これば、屈辱的です。
(Really? Oh my. If it happens to me, I would feel really embarrassed.)

あらたつ先生: 日本人は、他の人が何で怒られているのかを学ぶいい機会だと考えているかもしれません（汗）
(People in Japan might think it is a good chance so that others can learn why one man is being scolded. Haha.)

ナルト先生: （汗）なるほど。
(Haha. RIght. That makes sense.)

あらたつ先生: 生徒だったときその光景をよく見ました。
(I would see the scene when I was a student. )

ナルト先生: 学校で起こるんでね！
(At school, it happens! )

あらたつ先生: 日本の悪い伝統の１つだと思います。
(I think it is one of the bad traditions in Japan.) 

ナルト先生: ここでもよく起こりますよ、大部分が学校で。
(It happens here too, mostly at school. )

あらたつ先生: そうなんですか？
(Really?)

ナルト先生: はい！特に高校で！多くの生徒が反抗的なので（笑）
(Yeah! Especially high school, since most of the students are rebellious in high school. Haha.)

あらたつ先生: 会社でもありますよ！
(Even in companies, I can see it!)

□ フィリピンでは警察沙汰になった場合、観光客は負ける！は本当か？

あらたつ先生: そのサイトでは、地元のフィリピンの方と問題があったら、観光客は勝つことができません。それは事実ですか？
(According to the website, if tourists have a problem with the locals in the Philippines, tourists will not win over them. Is it true?)

ナルト先生: あーすみません、よく理解できません。議論？100%理解できていません。例えばどんなときですか？
(Oh. I don't think I understand that fully. Like arguement? Hmm. I am not getting it 100%. Can you give me an example?)

あらたつ先生: タクシーにのるとしたら、高い料金を請求されます。
(If I take a taxi, the driver will ask for a very expensive fare.)

ナルト先生: それから？
(And then?)

あらたつ先生: 料金表と違う料金だから違法です、と僕が言います。そして警察を呼びます。
(I say that it is not legal because the fare is written in the fare table. So I call the police. )

ナルト先生: それは違法です。
(It is illegal. That's right. )

あらたつ先生: だけど僕のクレームは警察は無視します。そんな感じのことをそのサイトは言っています。それは本当ですか？
(But my complains will be ignored by the police. The website says like that. Is it right?)

ナルト先生: あー、そうでもないんじゃないかな。そんなニュースはたくさんあります。もしそれが起きて警察に行けば、調書を書いてくれますが、そのあとはどうなるかわかりません（笑）
(Ah. Not really. There have been a lot of those cases that even made the news. If it happens to you and you visit the police, they will take it as a report, but I am not sure what will happen next. Haha.)

あらたつ先生: なるほど！それから、
(I see! In addition to that, )

ナルト先生: はい
(Yeah?)

□ フィリピンではハンカチをあげるのはNGは本当か？

あらたつ先生: ハンカチをあげることは、フィリピンでは、プレゼントとしてはマナー違反だと聞きました。あってますか？
(I heard that giving handkerchiefs as a gift is a bad manner in the Philippines. Is it right?)

ナルト先生: あー、そんなに悪いマナーではなくて、迷信のようなものです。それが不幸といいます。
(Ah. Not really a bad manner, but more like a superstitious belief. They say it is bad luck!)

あらたつ先生: 友達からもらうとどう思いますか？
(If you got it from one of your friends, what would you think of it?)

ナルト先生: あー、僕は迷信をあまり信じません。
(Ah. I don't really believe in the superstition. Haha. )

あらたつ先生: 嬉しいですか？
(Are you happy?)

ナルト先生: 多分、田舎の人や年寄りの方は信じると思うけど僕は信じません（笑）
(Maybe in some more rural area, or older people, but I don't really believe in superstitions. Haha.)

あらたつ先生: 外国の友達がそれをくれたら、喜びますか？日本では、プレゼントとしてハンカチを上げるのは、結構普通の習慣です。
(If a friend outside the Philippines gave it, are you just pleased with it? In Japan, giving handkerchiefs as a gift is a common custom. Haha)

ナルト先生: 嬉しいですよ！誰から来ようと関係ないです。贈り物である限り、受け取ります（笑）実際、高校の頃、しょっちゅう贈り物としてハンカチを受けとりました。
(Yep! Doesn't matter who it came from. Haha. As long as it is a gift, I will take it. Haha. I received handkerchiefs as a gift a lot when I was in high school actually. )

あらたつ先生: そうなんですか？
(Really?)

ナルト先生: はい！ハンカチ好きです（笑）その迷信は、年配の方に当てはまります（笑）
(Yep! And I love it. Haha. That superstition is mostly for older people. Haha.)

あらたつ先生: サイトが盛っているんですね。
(Websites overemphasise the fact than it is. )

ナルト先生: そうですね（笑）だから人の経験がいいんです。その文化により理解を与えてくれます。
(That's right! Haha. That's why I prefer personal experience. It gives you a better understanding of the culture, right?)

あらたつ先生: そのサイトでは、ハンカチをあげることは、タブーと書いています。
(It says that giving handkerchiefs is taboo in the Philippines. )

ナルト先生: （笑）タブーはとても強い言葉です。いくつかの地域でそうなっている、が正しいと思います。
(Haha. Taboo is a very strong word. I'd say "frowned upon in some parts".)

あらたつ先生: 贈り物としてハンカチを贈ることは、フィリピンのいくつかの地域では嫌な顔をします。
(Giving handkerchiefs as a gift will be frowned upon in some parts of the Philippines.)

ナルト先生: そうです！
(Very good!)

あらたつ先生: たくさん教えてくれてありがとう！いつかフィリピンに行きたいです！！！
(Thank you for teaching me a lot! I want to go to the Philippines some day!!!!)

ナルト先生: どういたしまて、あらたつ！すぐにフィリピンに来れるのを期待してるよ！
(You are welcome, Aratatsu! I hope you can visit the Philippines soon. )
