What is the Banpresto Figure Colosseum "Sculpting Ninja World War"?
This event was held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the "NARUTO" TV anime, where five sculptors selected their favorite characters and entered their original sculpted works into the competition. With nearly 20,000 votes from around the world, a winner was chosen.
In this interview, we spoke with Shinonimu, the sculptor who created the Tsunade figure.

"I focus on capturing the flow from the starting point to the endpoint in a sequence of actions. I hope you can feel the flow leading up to the kick landing..."
Interview Excerpts:
How did you become a sculptor?
Shinonimu: I got my start by participating in a sculpting event as a student. From there, I began to get work through introductions from people I met at the event. Why did you choose this character?
Shinonimu: I wanted to create a cool female character, so I chose Tsunade, who has some great taijutsu moments. I also usually sculpt male characters, so this was a refreshing change.Did you take inspiration from Masashi Kishimoto’s character design?
Shinonimu: I focused on incorporating the "refined lines with minimal information" that are characteristic of the original manga into the sculpture. I was mindful of capturing the overall flow from the beginning to the end of the pose. What do you want people to notice about this work?
Shinonimu: The twisting roundhouse kick. I’d be happy if people could feel the flow leading up to the moment the kick lands. What makes "NARUTO" and its characters stand out to you?
Shinonimu: The blend of realistic expressions and body types, while still being distinctly 2D characters, makes them easy to translate into 3D. The power of the artwork, whether in battle scenes or everyday moments, is one of the series' greatest strengths. What were the challenges in sculpting?
Shinonimu: Simpler outfits and characters with fewer accessories are harder to work with because there’s less room for error.
