Review of an English-Only Cafe

In this article, I want to share my thoughts on what’s called an English-only cafe. An English-only cafe is a place where you can meet people from all over the world and practice English conversation. There’s one in Ochanomizu that I often visit on my way home. I’d like to review my experience at the cafe.

One of the great things about it is that you don’t have to worry about making mistakes. Most of the people you meet at the cafe are strangers, so you are unlikely to see them again. This makes it an ideal spot if you want to practice English in a laid-back environment or just have casual conversations with random people.

Another benefit is the opportunity to meet individuals from various backgrounds. If you usually interact with the same community and see the same people every day, this cafe provides a refreshing change.

Last but not least, it’s also a chill space for experienced English learners. Personally, I can already speak casual English, and I find that there are still plenty of new things to learn in this environment. There really isn’t another place as relaxed as this cafe.

However, I’d like to point out some downsides to the English-only cafe. While you can practice casual conversation there, it’s important to note that the focus on informal talk means you might not have the chance to use advanced English. If you want to practice more sophisticated language skills, you might consider joining a group like Toastmasters.

Another drawback is that it can be difficult to form close friendships. The people who come to the cafe have diverse backgrounds, making it challenging to find someone with a similar value system. Additionally, because it’s not a community of fixed members, it’s unlikely that you’ll run into the same person more than once.

Overall, I recommend visiting an English-only cafe if you’d like to practice casual English or chat with random people in a peaceful setting.
