Day 3
As you may know, me and my boyfriend Kazuki went back to the USA to visit family for a couple months during February and March. My family is from Florida so we stayed there most of the time.
While we were there, my mom suddenly told us about a great deal on JetBlue Airlines to go for a short trip to Washington D.C. (a great deal = お得な機会)
It was a round trip between Miami and D.C. for only $70 a person!
My mom was very encouraging that we should go visit there (I think she was getting a bit tired of having us in the house all the time).
It was too good of a deal to turn down, so we quickly bought the tickets (turn down = 断る).
When we arrived to Washington D.C., however, we realized why the tickets were so cheap for those days.
It was freezing!
We couldn't be outside for more than a few minutes without shivering.
Anyways, we weren't going to let that spoil a good trip, so we decided to go visit the National Mall. The National Mall is a park in the middle of Washington D.C. that connects important monuments and buildings in the city.
Turns out, the National Mall is way bigger than I thought. (turns out = 結局)
※「turns out」は「結局」という意味でカジュアルな言い方です!「It turns out that」も使えます。
But we decided we could at least walk to the Library of Congress at the end of the National Mall.
After a long walk in the cold, we finally arrived and were excited to go inside the warm building.
And… it was closed that day.
Well…it can't be helped, right? (It can't be helped = しょうがない)
Anyways, we decided to go to the National Gallery of Art instead.
The National Gallery of Art turned out to be our favorite place in Washington D.C.
Not only is it full of famous impressive works of art, it's also completely free to visit.
And the best part? Nice warm central heating 😊💕
On the second day, we visited famous monuments like the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.
I think Washington D.C. is an excellent place to visit on a trip to the USA.
Most museums and attractions are very impressive and completely free.
It's a great place to feel the history and politics of the United States, though it's often unfortunately forgotten by foreign tourists, who tend to go to New York or LA.
However, if you're used to warm weather like me, maybe I'd avoid going in the winter. 😳❄
