【Native English Diary】2日目～アメリカに行ってきました！

Native English Diaryの２日目はアメリカに行ってきた話をしたいと思います😎
この日記は、ネイティブ英語を読みながら勉強したい方や、在日外国人の日常に興味のある方のために書いています。

Day 2
This past February, I went home to the USA for the first time in 3 years. I came back to Japan last week, so I spent a total of 2 whole months there.
※2 whole months = 2ヵ月も過ごした っていうニュアンスになります！
I was feeling a bit homesick, so I was really glad to see my family after such a long time.
Even my boyfriend was able to come with me to the USA to meet them.
He's Japanese and he's never been to America before, so I think he had a bit of culture shock! But he and my family got along really well. (got along well = 仲良くできた）
Of course, there are so many limitations on traveling at the moment. Even though I'm a resident of Japan, I was also worried that if I went to the USA, I wouldn't be able to return to Japan.
But recently some travel limitations have been lifted, and me and my boyfriend were finally felt comfortable enough to go to the USA for a visit.
Anyways, because it's difficult to travel to the USA now, the plane was so empty.
Up until now, I've taken many long flights between Japan and America. (up until now = 今まで)
But this flight was the most comfortable experience because there was so few people and so much space.
On the way back to Japan, me and my boyfriend each had an entire row to ourselves! We were able to lay down and sleep. (lay down and sleep = 横になって寝る)
Anyways, since I have been in Japan so long, I experienced a little bit of reverse culture shock. Have you heard of reverse culture shock?
It means being surprised by aspects of your own culture after being abroad for a long period of time.
For me, I was surprised that so many people that I don't know tried to talk to me.
On the train or on the street, many people said "How are you?" or "Hello".
Also, the staff in stores and restaurants are very casual and friendly and often start conversations.
One time, a staff at Starbucks said to me, "I like your bag. Where did you get it?"
Another staff asked my boyfriend, "Are you Japanese? My nephew loves Japan and he's studying Japanese now."
I realized that I missed having friendly conversations with people on a regular basis. (on a regular basis = 定期的に)
It's definitely not a common thing to do in Japan.
There are so many more things I want to talk about regarding my trip to the USA!
But today's diary has gotten a bit long, so I'll leave it at that for today. (leave it at that = ここまでにしておく)
