Live Painting
I'm now a faculty staff at a university in Japan. So my job title is "Professor". But I think that I'm just a dreamer. In fact, I have often imagined things since I was a child. I'm still now dreaming of research and creation. Every day, I hit upon some ideas about research and creation. Some of them are good, but some of them are bad. But I can't help imagining something. It's my natural habit, I think.
Today, it suddenly occurred to me that "live painting" such as music. Music can be recorded and replayed. On the other hand, painting can't be recorded and replayed. In this point, painting is quite different from music. But both of them have some common points. For example, both of them are based on frequency. They have a property as wave data.
I'm interested in the relationship between painting and music. Actually, I have worked on several research related to the visualization of music and the auralization of painting. I still keep thinking of painting and music. If we record and replay painting, we would be able to "live painting" like music live. I don't mean that we take a video of the painting process. I mean that we record all the painting processes using IT tools such as LCD tablets or something. If we do such a thing, we can realize different paintings depending on the live like a music concert.
In other words, painters can be performers like musicians. Like music concerts, painters perform their paintings as live performances. They can arrange their paintings like musicians change their music with arrangements depending on their live concert. The same painting has several versions depending on the live. I think it's so interesting.
