On a different topic, how about Meiji Government was in those days? In fact, they were engaged in a bloody power struggle. The government managed to hold together until the overthrow of the Edo Shogunate and the abolition of feudal domains, since they were originally a hodgepodge of people from different backgrounds and with different ways of thinking, there were naturally going to be some conflicts. The first problem was military. The so-called new government forces were mainly composed of low-ranking samurai such as ashigaru (foot soldiers) and mercenaries represented by the Choshu clan's Kiheitai. They thought that after the Boshin War was over, they would be hired by the new government or receive a large bounty,but that did not happen.
