話は変わって、その頃の明治政府はどうだったのでしょうか？
実は血みどろの権力闘争になっていました。
江戸幕府を倒し、廃藩置県までは
何とかまとまっていた政府でしたが、
もともと出身も違えば
考え方も違う寄せ集めの集団でしたので、当然いざこざも起きます。
まず問題になったのは軍事でした。
いわゆる新政府軍の中心だったのは
足軽などの下級武士や長州藩の奇兵隊に代表される傭兵でした。
彼らは、戊辰戦争が終わったら
新政府に雇って貰えるか、あるいは
多額の恩賞がもらえるものと考えていました。
しかし、そうはならなかった。

In fact, they were engaged in a bloody power struggle. 
The government managed to hold together until the overthrow of the Edo Shogunate and the abolition of feudal domains, since they were originally a hodgepodge of people from different backgrounds and with different ways of thinking, there were naturally going to be some conflicts. 
The first problem was military. 
The so-called new government forces were mainly composed of low-ranking samurai such as ashigaru (foot soldiers) and mercenaries represented by the Choshu clan's Kiheitai. 
They thought that after the Boshin War was over, they would be hired by the new government or receive a large bounty,but that did not happen.
