Before making his "Bokoku-Ensetsu",Shozo Tanaka left the"Kensei-Honto" to which he belonged. The first reason was that Shozo felt that taking up the Kawamata case was a personal matter and that he could not cause trouble for his party colleague.
There was no one from the party to support with him, though. However, I would like to give Shozo's belonged party pals a little excuse for this. I have previously stated that at that time only men over the age of 25 who had paid their state taxes were eligible to vote. Now and then, elections cost a lot of money. So it is unavoidable that politicians listen to those who give them votes and those who pay them. Moreover, those who gave money and votes were the managers, in other words, the enemy side for Shozo Tanaka.
Another reason was Shozo's age. In the Meiji era, the average life expectancy for men was said to be 44 years. Shozo himself was now 60 years old and was aware that he did not have much time left. In fact, Shozo resigned as a member of the Diet after his "Bokoku-Ensetsu". He decided that if Congress would not act, he would at least do something about the victims who were put on trial. So he hired lawyers at his own expense and went to trial.
Here, however, Shozo experienced his fourth incarceration. The reason was that he "yawned" while the prosecutor was reading out the charges, and this constituted contempt of court. To put it badly, the prosecutor was looking for a way to get rid of a person who was in the way, and was looking for an opportunity to get rid of his.
