Now, these events meant that the samurai class had disappeared, not only in name but in reality. In their place rose the 「Zaibatsu 」,who developed from the wealthy merchants of the Edo period and emerging businessmen such as Yataro Iwasaki, who played a dark role in military logistics.
Although not on such a large scale, it is safe to say that Shozo Tanaka is one such person. Shozo had learned from economics that a samurai rebellion (civil war ) would surely cause inflation, and he recommended people in his neighborhood to buy land, but he was not taken seriously. He had no choice but to use his salary from the liquor store to buy the land himself. As a result of this land transfer, Shozo amassed assets worth a whopping 3,000 yen (200 million yen in today's value ).
