June 8, 1901. After being released on bail, Shozo Tanaka visited the home of Yasujiro(Hanzan) Ishikawa, the chief editor of the Tokyo Mainichi Shinbun, then known as a "fighting journalist". (It is unaffiliated with the current Mainichi Newspapers.) Ishikawa was known as a dynamic journalist, serving in the Yihe Dan Incident that broke out in Qing Dynasty. Ishikawa must have felt that Shozo Tanaka's activities were too lax for him. Ishikawa assured. 'Peaceful activities are not appropriate for Tanaka-Sensei. In fact, you didn't solve the problem after 10years of peaceful activity.'
Ishikawa's words were harsh, but they touched Shozo Tanaka's mind. Shozo asked. 'What do you think,Mr.Ishikawa?' Ishikawa responded with his own satisfaction. 'It is a little rough, but there is a way.' 'What is it?' 'Mr.Tanaka, do you know Sakura Sogoro?' 'You mean the master who was crucified for making a direct appeal to Tokugawa Iemitsu?' During this meeting, Ishikawa Hanzan was also thinking what Shozo Tanaka was thinking. They both said at the same time. 'You appeal to the Emperor to address the damage caused by the mining poisoning.'
