Protest 6/1

I’m in Los Angeles now. Protests are still going and curfew is in place everyday. If people go out among the curfew, they are arrested. Some people say it is an invasion of individual right. In the evening, we received our curfew alarm on the cell phone. First of the messages we received was curfew will start at 8 pm. But second message was curfew will start at 7pm. Third one is at 6pm... Finally, it started at 5pm. I don’t know the reason why it changed.
Last Friday night, many people broke stuffs and looted into the shops and restaurants. So many restaurants and shops are closed these days. Their shop windows were protected by the wood plate. Delivery services are also stopped at night. Everyone goes to shops and restaurants daytime.

Some protesters break stuffs and attack polices but other protesters stop it. Some protestors say they don’t know how to criticize governments and how to change the situation other than breaking things. Other protesters say that vandalism doesn’t bring us anything.

On the other hand, some police have became violent. Some police fired rubber bullets at protestors gathered peacefully. Peacefully gathered protesters are also arrested.

Of course the vandalism should be stopped. Why do people break stuffs?
I don’t know clear answer. But I guess there are some people who don’t intend to protest but just break stuffs and loot into stores. Even if they intend to protest, I don’t think it is good way to hurt someone, though. Many people lost their jobs due to the coronavirus. And they are stressful because of staying at home. They might be related to the riot. Additionally, the people who don’t like current government might agitate the riot. However, the most important factor is discrimination. Many people feel like they are discriminated in the society.

In the long history, there have been many discriminations. For some decades, there have been many protests or riots. How do we obtain the peace? If government threatens to end protests with military, the protests will be stopped. But I don’t think it is a true solution. If there are discrimination, discriminated people feel unfairness. Unless the problem is solved, riots will be happened again in the future. Violent protests should be stopped but we all think about how to stop discrimination.
