Did you know that there are two types of 5G? Unfortunately, iPhone 12 for Japan does not support real 5G!

5G is making a noise in the world. Read "Five G" instead of "Gozi". Please note that this reading will bring out the literacy of IT. 5G is an abbreviation for "5th Generation" and is the next standard of 4G.

At the beginning of the corona infection, there was a rumor that 5G was the cause because the infection spread in the 5G area, but now you can see that this is a complete hoax. Since the place where 5G radio waves are flying is an urban area, there are many inflows and outflows of the population, so there were many people with corona infections coming and going. There is no causal relationship with the effects of 5G radio waves.

However, we do not yet know anything about the effects of high frequencies on the human body, so there may be some effects. We need to wait for a while about this.

Actually, there are two types of 5G, "Sub 6" and "millimeter wave". "Sub6" is close to the frequency band used in 4G and can apply existing technology as an extension of 4G, so it has the advantage of being easy to cover the area, but the communication speed is not fast and it is 4.5G. Currently, the 5G that can be used in Japan is almost this "Sub6", which is a 4.5G-like radio wave.

The other day, I was comparing the communication speeds of 4G and 5G at WBS. The left is 4G and the right is 5G, but 5G is a little faster than 4G. If there is only this difference, it will definitely be 5G of "Sub 6" standard.

On the other hand, true 5G, which features ultra-high-speed communication and low latency, is the "millimeter wave" standard 5G, but it is hardly widespread. "Millimeter wave" has high straightness and is vulnerable to obstacles, and many base stations are required to cover the area, so huge capital investment is indispensable.

At the moment, "millimeter wave" base stations are only in a small part of Tokyo, and there is almost no benefit. With 5G of "millimeter wave", it takes tens of seconds to download a movie with 4G, but it is said that full-scale spread will be several years later.

All iPhone 12s released the other day are touted as 5G compatible, but both "Sub 6" and "millimeter wave" are compatible only with models for the United States. Unfortunately, the model for Japan only supports "Sub 6". Therefore, even if 5G of "millimeter wave" radio waves are flying, ultra-high-speed communication is not possible. Surprisingly, many people do not know this fact, but the speed is completely different even with the same 5G.

If you buy the iPhone 12 just because it is 5G compatible and capable of ultra-high speed communication, it is wise to stop it. I wrote a blog the other day, but I think that this iPhone 12 can be forgotten except for those who are involved in video production. The iPhone SE is sufficient for ordinary people to use.

It is said that if 5G of "millimeter wave" becomes widespread, the delay will be low and it will be possible to assist the fully automatic driving of automobiles and to realize complicated surgical operations by remote control. However, compared to 4G, a huge number of base stations are required, and creating an environment where stable radio waves can be received is a considerable hurdle and can be covered only in the four major metropolitan areas of Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. I feel that it will only spread in a few years.

Of course, new technological innovation is necessary and I'm looking forward to it, but honestly, I wonder if 5G can be used either ... I personally think. 4G in Japan is faster and more stable than overseas, and I feel that this is enough.

If you want to experience the true 5G "millimeter wave" on your iPhone, purchase a model for the United States and use it in the very few spots where "millimeter wave" is flying. However, there is almost no content yet, so there is a limit to what you can experience.

By the way, the chipset for 5G is manufactured by Qualcomm, and there is no doubt that it will be a company to watch in the future. You may buy the stock now, but at your own risk.

Thank you for reading it until the very end!
