Little Women
Little Women (Louisa, 1868) is one of the most famous books written in the 19th century. But I think many modern young people have not read it yet. The story is just like a diary but it is not boring. I think the most important thing in the book is the love of family and the difficulty of various relationships. Then I write down what the story is about and how wonderful it is.
First, there are five main characters in the story. Four sisters named Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy March and their friend called Laurie who is a rich boy and their neighbor. Four sisters and their mother lived on their own because their father was in The Civil War. In this situation, without a breadwinner, Jo wanted to do her part as father in the family. She is such a brave and ambitious person.
One of my favorite points in the story is that the characters' emotions were described very real with psychological strongness and brittleness. Jo was a very strong girl but she always worried about her irritable personality and she tried to fight the image of a woman by age and society. She wanted to be a writer. But in this period, women were considered as not to be able to live without marrying someone because of the economic aspect. In other words, women at the time didn’t take it for granted to work. For this reason, she said “I wish I was a boy.” This word makes us think critically for society.
However, I don’t like the end of the book which is an abbreviated edition of a book. Its end is so thin and nothing solved. Unfortunately, I have not read all of the original book, but I have watched the movie version, Little Women (Greta, 2019). That content is almost perfectly based on the original. It is worth watching and its ending is great.
The most impressive part of the story is that it is a work full of love. The sisters loved each other from the bottom of their hearts. And they loved not only their parents, their grandparents and friends, but also everyone they met. Because they knew that kindness and love is the most important thing in the world. They were such lovely girls, so when I finished reading, I got to love them. And I have come to hope everyone's dreams come true in the world because the story makes me think life is wonderful and everyone’s life is meaningful. In the youth, probably everyone was sensitive and had a hard time. But these experiences are so important to be growing and that cannot be replaced into anything. I recommend you to read this book if you want to feel a mind of great youth. But I recommend watching the movie version more.
