This article is detailed route guide of the Michinoku Coastal Trail. One of the 50 sections that divide the entire route.
Very detailed and specific introduction of entire route.
Based on experience of actually walking the entire route two times, both southbound(SOBO) / northbound(NOBO).
The article is written as the southbound (SOBO) route. But, there may also be photos and explanations of the northbound (NOBO) route.

If you want to know basic information about the Michinoku Coastal Trail in general, please read the article below first (It's a free article).

0. Overview of this area

In this article, introduce the areas of Noda and Fudai villages in Iwate Prefecture. Between Rikuchu-Noda Station and Fudai Station on the Sanriku Railway.

If you walk this entire section, it is nearly 30 km long and takes about 7 hours. The ratio of paved roads to nature trails is about half and half.

This is a varied and fun section with ups and downs, visits to the sea, remains of mines and stream walking.

The famous Osawa Bridge and Horinai Station on the Sanriku Railway will also be a delight for fans of the NHK TV drama "Amachan."

As this is a section where the Sanriku Railway runs parallel, there are various ways to divide the sections.
If you think carefully about where to divide the sections, this is a section suitable for beginners.

On the other hand, in the stream walking section near Fudai Station, your feet will definitely get wet, so you need to prepare the necessary gear.

  • Distance: Approximately 26km (If use detours, it will be a little change)

  • Maximum elevation: Approximately 190m

  • Estimated time required: 7 hours (If use detours, it will be a little change)

  • Route difficulty: Medium (Overall it is easy and suitable for beginners, but experience is required for the stream walking sections. There are also many ups and downs throughout the course)

  • Access to public transportation: Very easy (Most of the route runs parallel to Sanriku Railway.)

  • Accommodations: Several (Such as Hotel Eboshi-So)

  • Campsite: Several (Such as Tamagawa Campground, store of Trail Oasis)

  • Restaurants: A few (For example, around Rikuchu-Noda Station, Rest House Ushio, and around Fudai Station)

  • Stores: A few (Around Rikuchu-Noda Station and Fudai Station)
