The Life of Kitten Bucho -18 Whose lap is the owner's?
Before I knew it, Bucho was always with my husband. He seems to have learned the art of relaxing on his owner's lap, but he won't sit on my lap.
When I asked, "I wonder why," my husband replied nonchalantly, "It's because your lap is Shimao's territory."
I knew that cats were territorial animals, but I was shocked to learn that even their owner's laps were their territory.
But Bucho is clever. If he sits on my lap, which is the territory of the resident cat, then naturally Shimao will get angry. That's because no matter how gentle a cat is, territory is important. If there is a dispute over territory with Shimao, then naturally the new cat will feel uncomfortable. So perhaps Bucho is thinking that if that's the case, he'll at least give up one of his laps.
